    Hey all,

I've been using a w880cu for over a year now, and have had few problems. However, after playing SWTOR for a few hours tonight, and noticing the fans were even louder than normal :)P), I booted up SpeedFan, and found my Nvidia 480M was running at 92c. Is this safe?

    Thanks for any help.

Edit: Update: It's been about 30 minutes now (idle), and the temperature is still above 70 degrees. Don't know if this helps at all. Couldn't find any information on safe temps through Google :/

Another quick Q (sorry for double post): would it be possible to put a 6970 in the laptop, and does that card run at lower temps?

    Thanks for the reply.

Propped it up on my desk to allow some air through the base, but despite that, I'm now getting temperatures past 100c : 102c, apparently. Again, this is while playing SWTOR for a few hours. Short of buying a laptop cooler (I've ordered one), is there anything else I can do? And how much is it likely to shorten my laptop's lifespan by?

You obviously need a repaste mate, and fast before something breaks for good.

Over 100C is definitely not good. I'd agree with repasting it now and making sure the vents are clear (and the fans are working). The 480m was a pretty power inefficient card and was known to get rather hot.

Thanks for the assist. Blown it all out with compressed air, and that + the laptop cooler has got it running at much lower temps. No worries :)
