So I came across this the other day,
2 TB WD Green 2.5-inch Hard Drive Goes on Sale | techPowerUp

Says, Western Digital's new high-capacity 2.5-inch hard drive, the WD Green WD20NPVT made an appearance in Japanese ground stores. Strangely enough, while the drive is built in the 2.5-inch form-factor, it is 15 mm-thick, making it unfit for most notebooks. The drive provides a staggering 2 TB of unformatted capacity, and features IntelliPower variable spindle speed (4,500-5,400 RPM?), 8 MB cache, SATA 3 Gb/s interface, 0.2W idle (parked) and 1.7W (active) power consumption. It is priced at 18,800 JPY (US $240).

So will this 15mm thick HDD fit inside a Sager NP9170?

The green drives are typically average 5900 RPM . Don't know if it will fit but I remember seeing a post where someone needed to do some slight modding to fit a 1TB which was 10mm thick so I doubt it will fit but I don't have my laptop yet so don't know fur sure.

I think it's 12V, not 5v. If that's the case it doesn't matter if it fits, it just isn't compatible.

Generally, no. These are probably aimed at SFF desktops/servers.

Nope, pretty much all notebooks with the exception of a few desktop replacement machines that use desktop CPU's and such, might support 12v drives.

P170EM's service manual only mentioned 5V and 3.3V for the SATA port diagram, I guess it won't work with a 12V drive.

    Yoooo !
Its not a 12v drive. The x7200 doesnt support 12v drive, yet the drive works flawless. Only problem was with pushing it into the drive cage.

So you're saying this will work on the NP9170?

It's a 15mm drive so depends on how the connector is located, but likely not. It will be over 5mm too thick.
