    Hi guys,

I've recently purchased a new IPS WQHD screen and wanted to prepare the equipment required to use it. Also thing to note is my monitor only has a Dual Link DVI Port, nothing else.

Generally a 2560x1440p monitor requires a dual link DVI-D connection, as we all know the P170EM/NP9170 DVI port does not support dual link, so I wanted to reach out here to seek help in trying to utilize my new monitor.

What I will try when I receive my monitor will be:

    1. Plug a Dual Link DVI to HDMI adapter into the back of the Monitor and run the monitor via HDMI.
    2. Run an active Display Port to Dual Link DVI adapter from the laptop and plug the Dual Link DVI cable into the Monitor.

Has anyone else had experience running monitors at this resolution off their P170EM/NP9170? Would you care to detail your personal experiences; I am looking at running a Dual Monitor Setup soon and would really appreciate any insight you guys have, thank you.

FYI: I'm trying to run a Dell U3011 from the DVI port and I can't even get 1680x1050 nor 1920x1200, even though it should work. (works with 2408WFP)
Yet displayport does support the full resolution of 2560x1536/

In any case, I would only bother with displayport to DVI Dual Link adapter which I'm confident will work. You can't be sure of HDMI as different revisions supported different max bandwidth.

I am also interested in using an WQHD with my P170em. The screen I have in mind is one of these Korea-made screens, with a displayport connector. Or possibly using a displayport to dvi-adapter. How did you get your screen to work?

Great! May I ask why you went with the active adapter instead of buying one of the crossovers with a displayport input? Looking forward to your report.

well to be honest I didn't find one with a displayport. only the new ones also include1.4a HDMI alongside DVI. , which isn't enough for 1440p. plus it was very cheap, the new ones cost 100-150$ more. maybe you could link me to one with a DP input :)

Any active (it HAS to be active) DP to DL-DVI should work :)

If you look at the picture of the inputs you will see the displayport connector.

A DP->DVI cable will not work as the DP signal will be converted to a single link signal unless you use an active converter.

HDMI/DVI out will not work on a P170EM as they do not support 2560 x 1440p. Only Display port monitors will work or an ACTIVE display port to DVI adapter (that has a usb power cord).

So I finally got my new monitor yesterday. I first connected it without the DP->DVI adapter, because I was so excited and it resulted in a BSOD :D

I hooked it up properly with the adapter and no problems whatsoever, and the Quality is amazing. I mean I thought my Laptop screen was good, but this just blows it out of the water in terms of colors. my laptop almost looks washed out compared to this 27Q. Anyway excellent build quality, everything is metal, which I didnt expect (except the stand)

When I did my research on the different Crossover models, lots of people were complaining about the 2720/2730 models having inferior panels and more dead pixels. I have yet to find a dead pixel. Also the 2720 has more input lag, if you care for such things.

I'd definitely recomend this monitor to anyone looking for a 1440p solution, best bang for buck imo.

When I go for one I will have to choose between 120hz 1080p and 1440p, I am not sure which will win :s

Well I would only go for a 120hz if you either play alot of first person shooters and you want to improve your aim, or you actually can achieve 120fps in a game (lowering settings if necessary). I'm assuming you dont care for 3D?

I didnt meet the above requirements, so I went for the 1440p option and I dont regret it. older games e.g. one year old like ACR, BFBC2, Deadspace 2 (and 3!!) all look amazing. BF3 was the only game I had to lower settings (medium) to achieve 60 frames, and it still looks better than ultra@1080p

But with your overclock I doubt you will have to turn down anything :p

Yes it would be 120hz 2D I would be gaming at, but 1440p would also look amazing.

Ah first world problems :p It would not be just now anyway.
