    Hi, guys.

I'm about to order a Sager NP8660 which is 15.4" screen size. What do you think, is it better to order the WUXGA screen or WSXGA? Thanx for everyone

If it was a 17", I would say personal preference. On a 15" though, I would definitely go with the WSXGA+.

Yeap, go with the WSXGA. WUXGA will be to small on a 15". ;)

It can also be a personal preference. ;)

I have a WUXGA (1920x1200) matte screen on my laptop. I think it's awesome that all my desktop icons are tiny and I have a lot of screen "real estate" but reading text off of a webpage is a killer. I installed the image zoom feature on Firefox just to be able to read without a strain. I would go with the WSXGA screen honestly, my new computer has it and it looks just fine. You don't need that much space extra. As for gaming, you will hardly ever run games at that resolution.

    Just my opinion.

I would pick WSXGA, WUXGA would be a way too small on a 15''.

I have WUXGA, and it's looks great to me. I've never had a problem with text appearing too small or anything similar.

    i pick 1680x1050 one.

    if you happen to choose the WUXGA 1920x1200;

-the picture would be very smooth
-you will fit more into the screen

    but you will have,

    -decrease in battery life
-need more power (GPU) to power the screen
-very small text, but it depends on preference

As someone who owns this notebook, I'm in the minority, but I wish I had gone with the WUXGA, because, 1) I have now seen 1200p gaming on a 15.4", and I can't unsee how good it looked, and 2) It would've left the door open for a future Blu-ray drive upgrade. As I now stand the price of upgrade to the higher res screen is nearly 25% of what I paid for it, and not a wise financial decision.

Icon and text size is a personal preference issue, one I would have no problem with.

You could always order the WUXGA; you'll have 30 days to try it out, and f you don't like it, simply return it for the WSXGA+.

Stick to WSXGA+ unless you need a matte screen or unless you do some tasks that requires higher res.

WSXGA+ would be the better resolution for a 15", WUXGA would be overkill IMO.

You will be straining your Eyes with WUXGA imho.
Plus you won't be able to run some games in native rez *cough Crysis and prob a few others* Games always look best in native rez.

Please please please stick with the WSXGA+. I have one with WUXGA now and it really stresses my eyes, although the screen looks more smooth I should say. But man, I would need to zoom in to websites just too read them properly. This is the thing that I mostly regret with this laptop, I should've sticked with 1680x1050 screen!

P.S. My eyes are still normal grade yet I'm having a hard time with the screen.

isn't the screen resolution switchable? I mean, let's say I have WUXGA screen, but I can always choose the screen resolutions right in the control panel? any idea?

Yes you can do that, but you will notice that when dropping to a lower resolution, it doesn't look very good at all and it wont be as sharp or detailed. Everything looks better at native resolution and the more you lower it, the worse things look.

Again for a 15" screen, you are best off getting the WSXGA, and run everything fine at native resolution rather than getting WUXGA and having to lose some quality in games because of having to drop the resolution a bit or having to increase the DPI so you can read text better while browsing the web.

I got the WUXGA screen and don't regret it one bit - but I might be in the minority because I use Photoshop frequently, so the extra screen real estate is welcome. The font size is a bit small for browsing, but I've adjusted well enough to it.

Unless you're running programs where the extra pixel dimensions will help, the WSXGA is probably your best bet, for reasons outlined by others in this thread.

Is the WSXGA+ screen enough for light rendering/animating stuff?

Yes the WSXGA+ of the NP8660 should be more than adequate for light rendering/animation.
