Is a 1440x900 screen available anywhere for the M860TU?
I currently have the 1680x1050 glossy, and am getting a little tired of having to zoom to read webpages, or sitting right up close to the screen.
    Any help greatly appreciated. :)

if youve got a wheel on your mouse just click ctrl (or it could be fn key) and turn the wheel and it makes it bigger. this will then be saved each time you go back to that page.

Errr, why not just change the resolution in screen settings?

I know what you mean OP, and I can't imagine how users of the WUXGA 1900x1200 manage not to go blind.

the browser zoom trick works well in Firefox, though it depends largely on the browser and website. You can also adjust most window fonts and other application fonts in the OS itself.

Depending on your typical usage (I use mine mostly as desktop replacement), I'd be more tempted to put the money towards a dedicated LCD display.

use the ctrl + key to zoom in firefox , or ctrl - to zoom out

or simple thing is...you can change the resolution of course...its not that the display will look bad in non-native resolutions?

    Quality is reduced greatly.

I do ctrl + scroll, and adjust vista fonts, so that's not the problem.
I just wondered if it is possible to buy an actual 1440x900 screen for this laptop anywhere.

it would be a waste to downgrade the resolution of the screen...
    but thats just my opinion...

    15.4" WXGA(1280x800) TFT LCD
    15.4" WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT LCD
    15.4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050) TFT LCD
    15.4" WUXGA (1920x1200) TFT LCD

It seems you can... but I have yet to see any seller offering anything bellow WSXGA+. I would agree with you that WXGA seems like the best resolution for 15" screens, but my options are limited in gaming laptops as I prefer matte (and have the WUXGA matte screen).

I say stick with it too. After all you only need to alter the resolution for reading via the internet. Graphical quality doesn't really come in to reading unless it makes the text completely illegible, which it won't at that resolution, on that screen.

For programs demanding high graphics, you can just switch back to native res' again. Wouldn't you still want to WSXGA+ for gaming/graphics work?

i think using windows tools that can change your DPI or what it calls...can change so that the text look bigger results in more legible words...

If you're using Vista or Win7, then go into your display options and set the DPI higher on your display. The default is 96dpi, try 120 dpi and see if that works better for you (this used to be called "Large Fonts" mode in older versions of Windows). While you could do some of this in XP and earlier versions of Windows, the support in Vista and Win7 is much better.

The idea is to leave your hardware alone and change how Windows displays text and icons on the screen. Rather than change the LCD panel to make the pixels larger, just tell Windows to use more pixels to draw the characters. Not only will the text be large enough to read, but it will look better too.

Unfortunately some programs don't handle adjusted DPI settings very well (too many assumptions made by the programmers) but for the most part support is getting better. The typical symptoms are that the text gets bigger but a window size stays the same. But as I said, most modern programs handle it just fine.

Hmm, you could try calling a reseller, to see if they could order the screen for you.

    I too want WXGA+ but I want it matte/non glossy/non reflecting.

I tried dpi and it didn't work for some sites, another trick is min character size, all briwsers have this, just be patient and look for it; but dpi changing "did not" work in all programs making stuff unreadable...

The toughest thing is to actually find the real manufacturer of the display not to mention quality, response time, etc

I found some topics here talking about display replacement, but none for the M860TU. You could try there to get brand oriented.

Also by living in UK you might even find the part you need at some "local" services and maybe try them out?
