Hello All;
I was hoping to add a fan to the Sager 9262 where it has 2 HDD,one on top of other. Is there any cooler for laptop sized HDD?I could only find ones for 3.5".I was thinking of adding a 40/60mm fan to it.But don't know where to get the power from.
Can any one help with this?

You using RAID Rambo?
If not, then put the secondary HDD in the third bay... where the battery is. -
How hot are your drives getting if you're so concerned about temps?
-

I did put the HDD in that bay for a while. But seems like it's under the battery and so gets even more hotter.
-
53C ?? ....thats normal.
Going over 60C and staying there is when you should worry.
These notebook drives operate fine in temps around or under 60C.
My HDDs are around 55 while I am gaming or doing heavy data transfers.
I actually set them to turn off after 15min of idle, if I am not using that particular drive... to help help prevent unnecessary heat. -
My Fujitsu idles at ~50C.

How do you do this?Is there a software to turn off the HDD when not used?
-
I use RMclock to do this.
- under Profiles, your choice of Profile (I choose "Performance on demand")
- then the OS settings button on top.
You can also do this in the Power Options in Windows. -
I supose it would be possible, but only some special laptops are able to use active cooling.
I know K-TRON has his D900K modded and uses a 12V rail to power up a fan for the drive...so he can even use a raptor inside.
I don't think there's space for it though. Maybe a custom heatsink or a vent right under it ... -
^^ I would not say its safe to use a raptor... but active cooling would help the temps.
Some people modded the bottom panels with holes so that a notebook cooler can actively cool the HDDs. -
Yep, although you have to take into account the fact that holes or linear orrifices would increase the ammount of dust building inside the laptop.
But with holes and a laptop cooler, you virtually get active cooling. -
yup, the best mod I have seen was pretty pro.
the holes were cut and an thin metal mesh was added to the inside of the panel to prevent dust from coming into the case.
it seemed to work pretty well... and was cheap to do. -

Hi Gophn;
Thanks for pointing it out.
-
I wonder if Sager has a problem with people modding the plates.
I think I`m going to email them tomorrow and ask, but I will probably get a negative answer. -

Do you have more details about this?
-
Heres what happened.
An old friend of mine bought one of the first D900T and made sure to not get overheats.
So he bought an extra panel for his HDD (from a Clevo importer/distributor) so that he can mod one and have the stock one to switch if there was a need to RMA it.
He literally drilled a set of holes (not sure exact hole size, but was smaller than a pencil diameter) in a grid format that made a pattern around 2" x 3" on the panel.
Then he got a cheap thin metal mesh from Home Depot (hardware store) from plumbing section. He cut the mesh big enough to cover the 2" x 3" on the inside on the panel, used hot glue to hold it down.
Then it was done. Since the Zalman ZM-NC1000/2000 was not out yet, he made a cheap cooler/stand with a fan under the HDD, CPU, and GPU section.
It worked pretty well... too bad he did not take pics. -
I reconsidered, I ain`t emailing Sager,I`d rather do a mod behind their backs lol .
-
LOL. It it goes wrong... just buy another panel... no biggie.

I think it's a good idea.Looking what i can do about it.I cannot cut out plastic in shape of fan sadly.
-
If you have a Zalman cooler, just do what my friend did with drilling holes to create venting for the air from the cooler.

I have the Zalamn cooler. But drilling/making hole for a fan are beyond by technical prowess and limited by equipments that I have
-
i see.
a drill is pretty cheap under $20.
or you can use a hand-drill... even cheaper. -

I mean if I drill it's going to spoil the looks and the whole thing probably
.Do you know where I can get a spare cover from to try things on?
-
you can contact a vendor and say you want another one... try not to say why... maybe just say yours is warped.

I have mailed RjTech and will also ask Sager.I hope they have one.
-
RJtech will probably be your best bet to get a basic component like this.
Want to adda fan to cool Sager 9262 and need help.
