From your experience, how long a warranty would you suggest for a D901c?

I'm thinking either 2 years full warranty or 3 years. However, the 3 years will cost an additional E 190 and I'm wondering if it's worth the price. I think/hope that when a machine has survived its first 2 years, it is unlikely to break down in the next 2...

    Thanks

I am of the opinion that if you can afford more years on the warranty get it. You can never be too careful with laptops. I purchased my alienware with 3 years coverage and I am happy I did because after 2 yrs my video card went out a few times (long story) but without the warranty it would have been a few hundred out of my pocket everytime I had an issue like this. In this case, it was a justified purchase because it paid for itself in the end and then some and it increased its usage by another year. With out the warranty, I would have been forced to either pay out of my pocket to fix it or purchase a new laptop.

I always think of it this way too, its not a matter of "if" your laptop will break down but a matter of "when" it WILL break down. It happens eventually and more often then not, its always a couple of years down the road it seems (at least in my humble experience.)

So all in all, if you can spring the extra cash for the additional year of coverage I would do it in a heartbeat. I wouldn't even think twice or question its purchase.

    Hope that helps!

i would get a warranty that covers the time you think you will have it.

if you are someone who does an upgrade ever 2-3 years to keep up with the times. get a 2-3 year warranty.

mostly it depends on how much u trust urself and how protective you are about ur laptop =] i was never a big fan of warranties myself cuz i know im not gonna put it in a accident inclined place. so i usually stick with the lowest/minimum warranty.

That's what I think as well, but I'd like to know from experience if it is really the case, since the warranty is more expensive than most components (except the mainboard / video card)

The 2 past laptops that I have owned starting having issues beyond the first year. My current laptop was pushing strong until the 2yr 2 month mark when I started having issues with the video card and lcd screen and that extra year I purchased was well worth it.

The 2 yr you want is a good option but from my personal experience, I will always purchase the max I can buy for warranties because you never know when something is going to go wrong.

But if you plan on getting something different in 2 years then it wont really matter anyways.

I plan on keeping the laptop at least for three years, so I better follow up on your advice then. Thanks!

I'm not a big fan of extended warrantys as a rule, but laptops are the exception. I've yet to ever have a laptop that I used that I didn't engage the warranty on at least once. A few times it's been something that was cheaper than the warranty like a hard drive etc. But more than once it's been motherboard/video card or the LCD. I guess it's all a personal choice and if the warranty was outrageously expensive I'd probably skip it. But if it's relatively cheap compard to the laptop I think its worth it.

Of course a big part of the decision should be based on the quality of the warranty. How easy it is to get service, how fast do they get it done, how much of a hassle do they give you to get parts exchanged. Dell for instance has always sent me parts with barely a phone call. Sony however, you have to fight tooth and nail to get them to do anything for you. I have no personal experience with Sager or their resellers but before I buy any warranty I will definately look in to user reviews of their warranty service.
