I was reading posts on the kobalt issue and had me thinking does clevo or sager cover warranty's if a reseller goes out of business, etc? I haven't ordered from kobalt, just a thought that occurred to me.

If you buy a Sager branded Clevo and you are under warranty you are covered even if a dealer goes out of business. Not sure about others.. :)

Yup, Larry is correct, Sager-branded units will have their warranty covered by Sager if (Flying Spaghetti Monster forbid) the reseller goes under. :)

Yeah me too.... I love my Clevo but I bought it from Kobalt and I am really worried about the warranty... Kobalt also owe me for a matte screen I paid for and never received.

If I have a problem with my Clevo (its one of the new sand bridge) where can I take it in the UK for warranty repairs? I already have a problem with a driver issue... not sure what it just shuts down to black screen by itself sometimes and says it is a driver issue.

Also not sure about the USB ports but maybe that's paranoia after the SB problem at the beginning of the year...

Aye damn Kobalt I knew there was somethng going on when I couldn't get them to respond..

Why is Justine from Xotic (who is a reseller saying otherwise then?

Kobalt bought their models directly from Clevo so they are the system builders, which means they did the warranty work, as opposed to Sager-branded resellers where Sager covers the warranty.

Yes this is a good idea indeed! Sager Computers has been around since 1985 and is the World's Largest and most widely known Clevo importer. :)

Sorry to hear about your predicament guys. Rough deal. I've heard a lot about Trade Square on these forums, and they seem to get good user reviews too. They provide warranties on electronic goods (including laptops). I've never used them personally, but it might be worth checking them out and getting a quote:

SquareTrade Warranties | Extended Warranties for 70% Less Than Retail | Electronics Insurance Alternative

They operate in the UK and the USA I think. Maybe someone here has used them and can give tell you first-hand experience with them.

    Edit:

Here's the UK link for them:

I have squaretrade warranty on my droid 2, it even covers if I drop it, accidently jump in a pool with it. I do have to pay 50 deductible for any repairs. I have yet to need it. Also there are discount codes on the net sometimes for them to get 30 bucks off or a percentage off. Typically they are also cheaper than store warranties.

Interesting question.. So even though they are all Clevo's, if one of their re-branded Laptopbrands go down, there won't be any warranty anymore?

Thanks Justin for explaining .... me being a muppet again... Prema posted that Clevo did help when he had a problem with a company going bust so I have emailed the company in Germany to ask and will post the answer on the Kobalt thread.

I wondered about 4 Square I have seen them before but I couldn't remember their name so thanks for that idea too..........

We are all a bit stuffed for some of the drivers too as NVidia say don't update from their site as it causes "issues" so that will be another trial.

I just looked at 4 Square laptop warranty + accident protection for laptops £1500 - to £2000 and it is £269................. for 3 years it is up to £350 ...
Not sure how they would value Clevos but if they go by retail prices PCS is cheaper than Kobalt used to be :)

but yikes that's big big money for me..........

I suspected my warranty policy would go under once news of Kobalt's winding up went public, I now have in my hands the equivalent of a ticking time bomb. Only thing to hope is that the build quality will last at least a year without any issues.

Speaking of which, the first thing that goes on laptops tends to be the batteries. Any authorised battery resellers for the Clevo170HM?

Pretty much any of the resellers of Clevo machines should be able to get you a battery for that model. Since it is a current machine, it shouldn't be hard to find. :)

Battery sellers aren't too picky about where their customers bought their machines from I hope? That way I can get a battery (albeit at quite the price).

If the situation stays as it is, then the only thing I have to worry about is a major hardware failure (crosses fingers that it never happens).

Look around online for battery prices, ATT wanted to charge my mom 50 bucks for a replacement battery for her phone. I found the same battery for about 10 bucks a few years ago, I forgot the site. I think they did laptops as well.

Amazon / eBay should work fine in looking for replacement batteries..

You definitely invalidate any warranty if a non standard battery is used! Clevo have a nice picture of a burnt laptop on their site to make their point...
