Is this what i think this is?

    http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Xtreme_M1/

If it is what I think it is, the OCZ 17" DIY Notebook just announced, I would get it in a heartbeat. Are the dual Radeon HD3870s as good as two Nvida 9800m GTs found in the NP9262? The one and only thing that's setting me back is Cyberpower. I'm worried their customer service will be junk, and I won't get the laptop for 3 months! I've heard some great things about them (a friend of a friend bought a notebook from them and hasn't had any problems), and I"ve heard some horrible things about them such as reviews on resellerratings.com. It's 7.7 pounds to my knowledge, and just seems to be the perfect notebook! It's extremely reasonably priced from CyberPower (but may be sacrificing customer service quality, though more companies with better customer service may start to sell it) and seems to be a great computer. The hardware looks great, I believe it has support for quad core notebook processors, it has 2 graphics card slots, HDMI, blu-ray support (though not offered through Cyberpower yet). The one thing I"m not sure of is how many hard drive bays it has. CyberPower offers support for only one, yet it offers support for only 1 HDD on the NP9262, so I"m not positive. I looked at the OCZ official press release, and it doesnt' say, so I'm presuming only 1 HDD. Still, I think it has me sold. What do you guys think?

Its another re-brand of the Arima W840i (OCZ Whitebook).

It has new Intel PM45 chipset... so its Montevina.

$2300? Now I'm really want to now just how strong a 3870 is.

No matter, hopefully my 8660 will be ordered by the end of the week.

Since it's a whitebook, wouldn't that make it the unbranded m9750?

wow. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than AW. I found the same notebook on http://www.DigitalStormOnline.com for a bit more, but it has more reliability customer service-wise, build-wise, and configuration-wise. It also has a higher price though, but still is manageable. Do you reccomend this notebook (the Digital Storm notebook configuration) over the NP5796? Here are the specs/prices compared:

I hope that's a typo and the dual 3870's don't actually have DDR2 memory... that would be a huge bottleneck and I assume make even one mobile 3870 a good bit slower than a 9800m GT

if you're looking at the CyberPowerPC site, don't trust them. It says on the site their version of the D901C has 3 USB ports. I even went to their live chat to ask the guy about that.

Me: I have a question about the "insert name of Cyber Power's D901C due to laziness of looking at their site"; it says on your site it has 3 USB ports. Doesn't that model actually have 4 USB ports?

    CyberPower: Lemme take a look

    *5 minutes later*

    CyberPower: Yeah, you're right.

    Me: Thanks...

Don't trust their site, it may actually have DDR3 memory :)

Dual 9800M GTS in SLI will still be stronger than dual 3870's in crossfire. But they wont be that far behind.

how much stronger? Will you be able to play crysis on max settings with dual 3870s? That's what I"m mainly concerned about...

Support for only up to 4GB of ram ATM...and only Mobile processors to choose from...Boooooo!!!...still ain't ready for the 9262. And the 9262 has a cheaper base config. price.

Only if you turn the resolution down will you maintain 30fps.

Doesn't Crysis hate Crossfire setups? I've heard of people having issues.

so would the NP9262 with the 9800m GT SLI support Crysis better at max resolution/settings? I'm trying to get the best laptop for gaming for the best price. It's been a very difficult chioce. The NP9262 is good, though the features of the chasis are getting old (no eSata, no fingerprint, no HDMI). If they would update the NP9262 to make it at least 1 lb lighter with eSata, an integrated fingerprint reader, and HDMI, I think I would be sold :).

HDMI is not needs, you just get yourself an inexpensive DVI-HDMI adapter ($5-10).

e-SATA can be had with a ExpressCard with 2 eSATA ports.

And fingerprint readers are pretty much of a gimmick, most people I know do not even use theirs because they are buggy and not that rich of a feature.

In my opinion finger print readers are a waste of money half the time they don't work.
Yes a HDMI port on the NP 9262 would have been nice, but you can always get a DVI to HDMI cable.
Yes the 9800M GT in SLI will support Crysis better at max settings.
I have read somwhere saying that Crysis does not play well in a Crossfire setup.

How many people on here have said their video cards melted yet though? I know that people are saying there is a defect, but I thought it would be more prevalent in these forums if it was as big of a deal as people have been making out to be.

I'm not about to make a panic purchase based on a few shaky reports of a unfortunate phenomenon. No offense, but I'll take my chances on a new 9800 that I have an idea of how it'll perform rather than wade into the unknown with a new ATi card.

looks nice.. i may get my friend to get one..

np8660 for me thou.. as i think duel GFX cards in any notebook is a very flawed set up.

i wonder if it will suport any battery saving tech..
i think the np8660 will be outdated very soon as soon as some one releases a sim priced 15inch with a more impressive battery life/look
    2.5hours max is rather fail.

i really like this laptop because its cheaper than the 9262 with SLI...

so do you guys think this is more powerfull than a sager 5796 with 1 9800M GT?

i dont mind if it isint as powerful as the 9262, since it cant be that far behind, but this thing actually has a good look to it :)

and what sorta upgrade would we have to go through if we wanted to swith it to NVIDIA (pretty dumb question but just wondering)

Is it really cheaper? Because I configured it at xoticpc with comparable parts and it is the exact same price without cash discount. The only difference between the two is that instead of the x9100 extreme, I put in the e8600. And without overclocking, the e8600 is faster. Now, the other difference is the 9800m gtx sli, but we dont know how it compares to ati so that doesnt matter as much now.
That being said, I do love that its a pretty solid system. Maybe the price will drop on sager's products now :). But I guess it doesnt matter for me, since my computer is already bought and shipping tomorrow (if I am lucky).

inexpensive DVI-HDMI adapter ($5-10) = No Audio? Great, I get to run another cable and hope it is as long as my DVI to HDMI

e-SATA can be had with a ExpressCard with 2 eSATA ports = tying up my expresscard slot and just another damm card sticking out of my computer
reminding me of the old days when I had a PCMCIA memory stick reader

And fingerprint readers are pretty much of a gimmick = I use mine everyday with every web site I have a password for, including NBR

HDMI and eSata are neat options to have but in no way should be considered deal breakers when choosing what laptop to buy (unless you are one the very few who use their laptop as a home media center, get a desktop)

Using eSata for portable external drives IMO is a pain because you need either A) a power supply for the drive, since power is not supplied over the eSata cable or B) if your external drive can do this, a USB cable to supply power so you are still using up a USB port. You do get faster data transfers with eSata, but unless you are moving a large amount of data or doing system backups, it's not very useful. Stick with USB.

Fingerprint readers are pretty cool. I have a USB thumb drive with a reader built into it and I love it. My print keeps everything on the drive secure and the reader can also be used with any computer to log into windows and various websites that require passwords. I would like to start seeing these as a standard option on all mobile devices.
