Bought it from xoticpc this past feb. The cam worked fine until i had a hang on the laptop last week (second time this happened--i was forced to hard reboot after nothing responded). Each time i've had to do this, windows would scan the drive and fix some file/link errors. Well, this secondtime it happened, the webcam no longer works. Device Manager says it's there, I can use Fnc-10 to enable/disable it, but the BisonCam/msn messenger programs say it isnt there. Ideas? I've uninstalled and installed the drivers... still doesnt work.

Secondly--why the hangs?! I'm a little concerned the hard drive may be bad... ideas?

you can check your HDD by doing a CHKDSK.
    - START > Programs > Accessories > right-click on Command Prompt > choose "Run as administrator"
    - (in Command Prompt) type: CHKDSK C: /F
    - press Y (for yes) and Enter
    - Then restart your PC so that Windows will check your HDD for errors.

Note: make sure to watch for the summary of info at the end.
... mainly to see if there are any "Bad Sectors"

Then get a free HDD benchmark tool like: HDTune
    - run a benchmark test and post your results.

as for the Webcam, make sure that Windows (or any other security software) is not blocking the components of the Web cam software/drivers.

you should disable the UAC to see if it works,
    - if it works then Windows UAC has something to do with it... so you have to "Run as administrator" for the software.

disable any other internet security software to make sure that is not the problem.
