Glossy vs. Matte screen really is a totally unanalyseable mix of subjective taste and environment. At work, I have a matte screen, and, since I have a window that gets sun reflections off of the building across the street, it would probably drive me bonkers if I had a glossy screen. On the other hand, at home, where direct glare is easily controlled (shades for the sun, and no bright overhead lights, just very tasteful lamps (courtesy of my extremely patient and extremely beautiful wife)) the matte screen on my living-undead vaio is just ... dingy, and the glossy screen on my wife's hp (courtesy of me
), sparkles by comparison - the colours on the glossy are just so much more vivid than on the matte.
So, at work, I'm glad I have a matte screen and wouldn't change it for the world, but at home my next laptop will have a glossy screen (and the vaio will be consigned to either home-brew experimental platform - I have a real hankering to reverse-engineer all the b.s. Sony's put in there, including the so-called recovery CDs and the d**ned gelded Phoenix BIOS - or file server).

lol nice post @ Shyster1. But my problem is I don't know how the environment around me in college and stuff will be. So as a gamer, I'm just going with glossy.

well i didnt read through the whole thread but here is my take on my 5793
its an amazing machine. and its not as loud as many ppl say it is. ESPECIALLY when u use the med speed fan. its barely noticable. and again, the fans shouldnt be an issue at all. you can hear them, yes, but is it anoying or even noticably loud? no.
i myself have the matte screen and i couldnt be happier. its great and it doesnt have any glare what-so-ever. the colors are very vivid. that being said, its not a horrible decision to stay with the matte screen.
the laptop does weigh 8.35 lb, but seriously, 8 lb's? you gotta be seriously weak to not be able to move 8 lb's from place to place. it does look big at first, but its by no means heavy.
after exessive gaming and leaving it on over night, it did get warm but nothing unbearable.
~the end. enjoy -
That's great to hear!

tinytop69, no, the matte isn't bad at all. I would prefer it to the glossy if I were to buy one, but there is no WUXGA matte being offered.
-
As noted, it is a question of personal choices. I`ll do a movie later on comparing max brightness on my glossy WUXGA and my nx9420`s matte WSGA. That will prove my reason for never wanting matte ever again.

You can always get a bad screen, but from what I've heard the current matte screens on the 8710W are great.
