Weird question, does anyone's 8150 power brick made noises?

So I keep the power brick of my Sager 8150 on my desk. When I turn on the machine, the power adapter starts to make squeaky noises. It's like someone quietly cleaning glass with a damp towel. Is anyone else experiencing this  ?

Besides being kind of annoying, I'm worried it's sign of a hardware issue.

    Get a replacement adapter.

As for the noise, it should be coming from the circuitry on board, either the inductor or the capacitor.

Neither is a good sign, you should get a replacement.

Your PSU must be under warranty. What option does your reseller or dealer offer you? :)

I've notified my reseller. I got just the computer today so I'm hopeful something can be worked out at minimum cost to me.

I am not sure of the others, but if you have a Sager branded 8150 they will ship you one for free, then in the box you will have a label (or they will email you a label) to send the bad one back at no charge to you. :)

No cost! You're still under warranty of course :D

As another Sager-branded reseller, I can confirm this. :)

Hooray. Thanks for the help guys. If my past experience with Xotic is anything to go by, I know I'll be in good hands. Thumbs up.

My adapter (for the 8150) seems to be putting out the correct wattage, but it also makes weird squeaking noises. I thought it was normal, but if it's not, how would I contact Sager to get a replacement? Should I pm my reseller?

Hi guys, I would recommend not using your power adapters anymore if it is making a squealing noise. My girlfriend had this happen with a power pack, I ordered her a new one for, but she continued to use the faulty one before it was delivered. I kid you not, her laptop got fried. Basically it started to emit a metallic burning smell, i.e. the motherboard burnt out. The laptop was then useless, so I bought her another one. Just a word of warning.

Thanks for the warning. Nothing like getting a new gadget and being advised not to use it for a bit. /firstworldproblems

Yeah, I can imagine it is very tempting :) But the squealing is actually a built-in warning signal that the power pack is faulty. She used it for about two days before the laptop blew. Hopefully they can express you a new pack before the temptation becomes too much.
