Yes you read correctly. After nearly a YEAR of lurking, researching, and bugging people on this board, I'm going to wake up bright and early Monday morning and submit my order for my Clevo M570U :D :D :D

Take a look at the specs, let me know what you think:

    17" WSXGA+ 1680x1050 w/ matte finish
    GeForce Go 7800 GTX 256MB
    T7200 2.0 Ghz Core 2 Duo
    2GB DDR2/667 Corsair Ram
    80GB HD 7200RPM
    8xDVD+/-RW Dual Layer
Windows XP Home w/ Service Pack 2
(And all the other bells and whistles that come standard)

    Buying from RJTech.com

I decided to go with the matte finish because I went to Circuit City and got fairly annoyed with the reflection on glossy LCD's, though I will admit the colors were quite vibrant. This is my first notebook and I'm very used to desktop moniters, so I figured a Matte finish would be appropriate.

I'm going to make a special request to RJ Tech that Artic Silver 5 Thermal Compound be applied and that there be no sticker on my notebook.

Well, that's that! I'm quite excited and ready to get this beast home! All thoughts and opinions are welcome as always!

Why not $20 more for 100GB?
I don't know how much better 7950GTX is than 7800GTX, but I would have personally gone with that for $100 as well.

Yup, unless you got a real good deal on the 7800GTX i would have taken a 7950GTX with the above config..

I also am a bit confused on the choice of GPU.

Nothing wrong with the 7800GTX, because I have that videocard in my Clevo for over a year now. Its still faster than the 7900GS at stock.

I am guessing that it might have been better for your budget?

Because that's what I would consider to downgrade a bit to save some money.

In any case, congrats on the new beast. It should serve you well... as long as you take care of it. :)

Yeah I would have liked the 7950GTX..but budget limitations...I mean I would have loved to shell out the extra 200 and gone for the decked out 5760 at powernotebooks.com, but since nearly $1500 of it is being paid for by school my hands were a little tied. Sure, I could wait and save up the extra bit of cash, but I only work like 15 hours a week and didn't want to miss out on the M570U's chassis (I don't really like the M570RU)

I'm not that hardcore of a gamer, so I feel that the 7800GTX will serve my purposes well for the next 3-4 years.

I have a beefy external HD that will be used for the bulk of my media..20 dollars seems trivial, but I had a certain price I had to be under in order to purchase this notebook.

(The parental units are wary of gaming rigs because they think it will interfer with school, though my high school and collegiate GPA begs to differ.) I'm a rising junior by the way and the bulk of this laptop will be paid for by scholarship / stafford loan refunds.

Very odd request but I am almost willing to do anything to get my hands on a 7950 right now for Clevo series notebooks.

I have the 7800gtx and I would be willing to swap you cards if you order the 7950, I will pay the difference plus a little bit extra for your time!!

Can you help a desperate guy out?

P.S.- the swap is very easy, just 4 screws you unscrew plus removing the cover. My card works perfectly and even overclocks well, I will not only pay you up front but also wait for the 7950 until you have mine installed properly.

    !!

I have also been considering to upgrade my 7800GTX as well.... but the $500 price tag [for new 7950GTX module] is not worth the extra 15-20% performance increase and extra 256mb dedicated memory.

My 7800GTX is still running strong, so I guess it might not be needed.

Something I strongly considered. However, with this being my first notebook I'd rather not set myself up for any issues that would make me end up having to mail it back and wait even longer. I'm sure the 7800GTX will suit me just fine..I do game a little more than casually, but the 7800GTX is still a stout little card.

    Cheers

An unusual request indeed! Sorry man, I don't think I'm going to be able to help you out. Even if I wanted to, the whole purpose of ordering the 7800GTX to begin with is because the final price tag has to be under a certain amount, regardless if someone else was going to pay the difference at a later date.

However, what is it about your 7800GTX that makes you so desperate to aquire a 7950??

7800gtx probably heats up faster and gets hotter than 7950gtx and performs under.

Heat I have no idea about but the 7950 is the top card right now, the 78 is not.

You do realize you would be at a price savings beyond just opting for the 7800gtx given you help me out. Nor would it be at a "later date" I clearly said I would be paying you up front.

    Sigh... can't win them all.

You're missing the point..even if you sent me a check in the mail before I bought the computer it is still going to show up as $2000+ with the 7950 in the configuration. In order to have most of this computer paid for by a third party the total has to be under a certain amount. Even if I had a thousand dollars in cash, it doesn't help me any if the total comes up to be beyond the acceptable amount, the third party won't participate.

Indeed, you can't win them all.

Congrats on the notebook, it was a good choice. Regardless of the face that the Go7800GTX is an older card, it is still a very high-end card and the 7950GTX can't do much better than it can.

Well, slight change in plans due to stock issues!

Richard @ RJTech wasn't able to swing the WSXGA w/ Matte finish with the 7800GTX, so instead of botching the whole thing we cut a deal for the 7950GTX and WSXGA Glossy!

SO, looks like my beast is going to be just as hairy and mean as yours GraveFox!

    Booo...

So what games are you itching to try out on it??

By the time I'm expecting it's delivery I will have Medieval Total War II, BF 2142, and possibly Oblivion ready to download.

I'm wary of the likes of Oblivion or any other RPG that is a notorious time sink, though. After beating my Everquest addiction years ago I worry about getting sucked back into something wayyy too deep..haha

ive played World of Warcraft for like 2 years or close to lol so that is 1 of them and due to my current computer being about 5 or 6 years old i wasn't able to handle Vanguard all that well and even WoW i get about 10 fps constant on low settings so im dieing to try out both of those along with BF 2142... hence why im so anxious lol

Hey speaking of which..I remember towards the end of my Everquest all the chatter was about Vanguard. How is the game? It was developed by the original designers of Everquest before SOE came along and screwed everything all up.

What are your impressions of it?

It's actually really good imo ... so many things to do, the worlds are huge. I like it more then other mmorpg games played Lineage 2 for about a year Everquest for like 3 WoW for like 2 but i think Vanguard is as good if not better than those imo. The pvp is a little different then others but its nice and the grouping in it is amazing didn't get to play on it to much before i stopped due to computer issues but when i did it was really good. Planning on picking back up once the beast comes in lol.

Anywho, I was just informed that it was shipped today! I may not win any races, but I'm definately PUMPED! :D :D :D
