nice specs.
I would have gone for the 320GB 5400rpm drive since it perform close to the 200GB 7200rpm drive, but has much more storage.
That thing should be able handle whatever you throw at it. -

exactly my specs that i'm ordering tonight! i'd rather go with the 7200 because i'm doing pro-audio stuff and need the fastest IO
-
I have friends that do pro-audio, they all use external 7200rpm drives in enclosures.... much cheaper and with extremely large capacities.
-
Yeah, I know many people opt for the 5400RPM drive. But in my logic: gigs are cheap. I can buy more gigs if all I need is extra storage capacity. And 7200RPM sounds better
for a difference of 10 bucks.

yeah lol i have the samsung F1 1TB 7200RPM hooked up in eSATA but I want something fast for running apps and all that still too. unless you don't think it would make a difference on that end? all my samples for instruments are on the external and I record too it as well... hmm...
-
with so many VST's and sound files, an external HDD is very useful.

so do you think I could get away with the 5400rpm? do your friends use it?
-
my friend is a music composer and producer, he has two 320GB 5400rpm in his D900K (he saw mine back in 2006 and had to have one too)
He also has two 1TB external USB/Firewire drives to storage all of his VSTs, sound files, renderings, etc...
He uses his internal HDDs for quick work and after the projects are done, he copies them onto the externals. -
It just comes down to preference really.
Although the new 320GB 7200rpm drives are the fastest and decently priced for around $170-180. -

so they are set up in raid? depening on which setup, those two could very well be faster than the 7200rpm
-
nope, not in RAID

Anyone mind explaining the " (User Upgradeable)" in "512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 8800M GTX DX10 (User Upgradeable)".
Are they realistically expecting people to start upgrading these GPU's or is it the kind of thing you do if you have way too much money down the road -
-
Welcome to the family! It is going to be a phenomenal experience! One you shall not regret.
The user upgradable aspect of the video card means that once the next line of nVidia mobile GPUs are released, it is probable that you can order one and swap out your current card. Unlike any of the big companies (like Dell), who solder on proprietary connectors so you pay much more for the upgrade, Sager allows you to install it yourself. -
Grats orderkng mine tonight too. What's your guys take on the screen resolution? 1920 worth it if I'm not using an external monitor? How about warranty if I'm going away to school should I do 3 years parts and labor or what?
-
On my NP9262, I chose 1920x1200 because my desktop monitor uses that, so I knew it wouldn't be awkward swapping back and forth (except screen sizes). In TF2 on the NP9262 in a 32 player server, I get about 40 FPS average with max settings and no AA @ 1920x1200. That's pretty good, but I know as time passes I'll need to either get another 8800m for SLi to keep up the eye-candy at native resolution. The choice is yours, though.

well we've been discussing everything in this thread anyways. but we don't have that answer yet.
-
Ok wrock I'm with you, I'm ordering my 5796 tonight
what do we think the upgrade for the X9000 will be? -
X9100 3.03 ghz
-
sweet! X9100 3.03ghz awesome! what might it overclock to?
-
Anybody have an idea how long it will take to ship it if I pre-order tonite?
I'm leaving for vacation in 3 weeks and I wouldn't want it to be shipped while I'm not here. -
you should contact the vendor that you are interested in purchasing from.
they would be the best source to estimate date of shipping. -
-
3 weeks should be plenty of time. Sager and their resellers have the 5796 in stock and are just waiting for the NDA and Intel Confirmation which is tuesday so building should take a week and then it should ship.
-
-
I just pre-ordered a 5796 as well! I'm flipping excited, considering my current computer is a 3 year old HP laptop that sucked when i bought it.
