    2.33 dual core
    2GB ram
    8800m GTX

    i was getting around 9,200

and i was wodnering i upgrade to:

    Q6600
    3GB ram
    8800m GTX
    2 x 320GB

what do yo uthink my 3d mark score will be roughly? im kinda hoping aournd 13,000 - but im thinking i might be aiming too high :D

The CPU and the memory won't make a huge difference...
My guess, you would be lucky to get more than 1000 extra marks.

extra 8800 will be cheaper and the difference between 8800mgtx and 9800mgtx is not huge. If you have cash to burn then by all means go for the 9800mgtx sli, but I wouldnt recommend it.

It might also be worth waiting to see if the rumours about a new 9800m GT are true and to see the price/performance on that...

well now you're asking where you can buy an 8800mgtx... ;)

I think you'll have to either get one off ebay or another member here who is upgrading. Make sure you get one from a d90xc though, as the ones from any other system will have the wrong heatsink/casing arrangement - and make sure it comes with the full heatsink/fan/sli bridge cable

Call Sager. Another poster said they will still sell the 8800 SLI upgrade kit which includes the card, heatsink, fan, bios/vbios updates, and instructions for around $800 USD.

I believe the other poster I referred to lived in Hong Kong so I'm sure Sager will ship to the UK if they have the kit.

    what?

with my current setup up im getting around 9,200 so it should be able to go above 10,000 if i make it q6600, 3gb ram, 2 x 320GB hard drive and single 8800m GTX

Stock, you'll be getting in the high 8000 range. If you get a good OC, you'll hit 10k. Since 3DMark 06 is so heavily bound by CPU, I don't think you'll get very high into the 10K range. A Q6600 will improve your score substantially. The extra 100MHz per core x 4 will help speed those multi threaded apps along. The raid HDDs won't make a difference in score either.

Is your 9200 stock with everything? I could see you hitting 10k with a good overclock on the GPU, the CPU will definitely help.

    right now im confused :D

with the 2.33 dual core, 2gb ram, 120gb hardd rive, 320gb hard drive and 8800m gtx i was getting about 9,200.

so you guys are saying that my scores will barly improve after i have upgraded to q6600, 3gb ram 2 x 320GB hard drive and single 8800m gtx?

you need to stop thinking about the RAM and HDDs, because they are not part of the test/scores. You score will be the same even you put a 120GB SSD in. And yes it will be barely improve with Q6600, why do you think they call this 3dmark not cpumark? Bottom line, you bought the laptop for gaming, not 3dmark.

Na, I meant CPU bound. 3DMark 06's score depends too much on CPU to be a good GPU benchmarking app. I prefer Vantage because of that. 06 is multithreaded and will utilize the extra cores for its CPU tests. Your shader scores will not improve my much, 5-10 points maybe, but overall your score should go up.

Most 8800M GTX users get around 8700-9000 points in 3DMark 06. If your stock at 9200, you should get a decent score. If you really want to boost your score, sli and a Q9650 would be your best bet.

I'd recommend 4GB of ram either way. Especially if your running vista.

Good. I'd recommend the Q6600 any day. Plus, you can do the pin mod on it and make it a Q6700, which I would definitely recommend you do. Always nice to get a couple extra hundred MHZs for free!

Do a search for "Q6600 pin mod" here... you'll find tons of stuff. If it works for you, you'll have something far better than a Q6700!
