For my Sager 5760, this doesn't seem like that big of a deal I don't think, but when I turned it on it kept beeping at me and the fan turned itself on to max. Does anyone know why it did that? Or what it means? I ended up just turning it off and on and now it's normal again.

    Thanks.

Yeah with the system restart it probably took care of any issue. If it happens again then you might want to call Sager or your dealer for help.

The beeping on start up usually signals a memory issue. The first thing I would do is reseat your memory. If you have two pieces, just take one out for a while, and then the other one, to see if one of them causes the beeping while the other one doesn't. Switch slots as well as you do this so that you can rule out a bad slot.

The fan should spin up to high as you boot up, and then it falls right back down. That is just a normal POST fan test and nothing to be concerned about.

How would I go about reseating the memory? I've never opened a laptop up before, but I think I'll need to now because my laptop keeps beeping at me non-stop and then shutting itself off after a while.

I am sure you mean you want to reseat your RAM instead of your hard drive. ;) If you open your user manual you will see what compartment on the bottom of your laptop contains your RAM (large one on bottom). After you open this compartment (make sure you are free of static electricity), and pull each of your memory modules out and insert them back into their socket. You will see the metal retention clips on the sides will hold the RAM in place.

Are you familiar with what RAM looks like?

Yeah, that's what I meant, just fixed the message, and yes I believe I know what RAM looks like.

Ok, but if you have any difficulty with this, or it doesn't cure your beeping issue, please call our 24/7 Customer Service line for Sager laptops (877-774-1911) and they will take care of you.

Now, since you have two pieces of 1,024MB it is very probable that you will find that one of them is bad and the other is not. If this turns out to be true, Sager will arrange to cross ship you a new piece of memory and you should be all set. :)

Hmm, I reseated the RAM, but the problem still occurs. I was able to properly start up after a few attempts, so I'm using my Sager currently, but now I'm afraid to turn it off because I may never get it on again, lol. I guess it's time to call Customer Service, unless there are any other ideas?

Thanks for the help so far too.

From what you say you haven't taken one piece of memory out at a time to try to isolate which piece is bad, nor tested the slots as I suggested in my post above.
Please do that first so you can confirm that it is either a bad piece of memory, or a bad slot. Otherwise Sager will have you send the whole laptop in for repair, instead of simply cross shipping you a new piece of memort to replace the one you discover is bad...assuming that is the result of your testing.

It is up to you, but cross shipping a piece of memory will not require you to send the laptop in, and is a much more efficient solution.

I did follow your earlier instructions, I removed both sticks of RAM, put one back in the first slot, started up the laptop, but the same problem occured, then with the same stick of RAM, placed it into the second, back slot, started up the laptop, but the same problem occured.

Afterwards I removed the first stick of RAM, and then placed the second stick of RAM into the first slot, started up the laptop, but the same problem occured, then I placed the same stick of RAM into the second slot, and yet again the same problem occured.

And finally I stuck both sticks of RAM back into the laptop, and here I am.

I was hoping there would be some sort of program to test my RAM or something around those lines that I could do while my laptop is running.

Ok, well then it is time to call Customer Service. Tell them about the beeping, and what you have done to test both the memory and memory slots.

They will then try to troubleshoot other issues that might cause this beeping, and if they cannot they will arrange to have a Sager technician call you.

There is. Download memtest86 and run it overnight. Then in the morning add the results of this test to your report to Customer Service.
