    Ok here's the layout...
    Original:
    1.8 GHz / 1 GB RAM / 100 GB 7200 RPM HD / 7950GTX

    New:
    2.0 GHz / 2 GB RAM / same HD / 8700GT

    Purpose:
Purely gaming...mostly WoW...of course some new games like Crysis ....don't plan to run on high, well as much as I can get...

    Thoughts:
Ok With 8700GT it's a bit cheaper and the config looks nicer...now the 7950 is obviously better...DX10 is not availiable for XP so games will be played in DX9 I guess....

    Really need help ASAP

    if i can't get the 7950 in the 5790 i'll probably just upgrade to the 9260 >.>b

if you don't mind not playing on high your new choice doesn't look that bad... also the 2.0 CPU will add a lot over the 1.8 CPU because of the upgraded cache

It seems like it would run pretty well with your new configuration.

If you go with the new configuration can't you just change to Vista instead of XP? So that you can try out the new DX10 stuff that people with 7950GTX can't?

go with the original layout. just make sure that 1 gig of ram is only one stick so you can buy your 2nd stick on newegg.com for cheap when you need it.

I vote for you to go with the new configuration, and add Vista.

People on the board who have tried both recently have said that there is no longer any advantage to sticking with XP. Many of them have said that while once you would have achieved better performance with XP you will now see no difference between them now since the Vista drivers have greatly improved in quality.

I haven't read up on this so my information might be incorrect but here's my 2 cents anyway.

Vista is the only OS right now that can support DX10 but it may come to XP. If you want to stick with XP and hope DX10 comes for it go ahead but if I was you, I wouldn't take my chances.

i was hit with the 7950GTX backorder as well...i just upgraded it to a NP9260..i didnt want the 8700GT, and i definitely not going to wait until september.. i spent quite a bit more, but i think in the long run it will have a longer life due to its higher upgradeability

these "features" are upgradeable...you can get one, two, or three hard drives...you can put 2 hard drives in raid, or all three of them. when the time comes that you want better graphics, you can get a second gpu for Sli...

they are features not on he 5790...i originally wanted the 5790, but i want the 7950GTX, not the 8700, and i just cant wait until september for the 7950GTX...im just not that patient...

the 9260 was a few hundred $ more then the 5790, but i think it is worth it for my situation. it also uses a desktop processor, which can be both a blessing and a curse.

sorry if what i said isnt clear...im typing from my blackjack
