Ok so a few days ago I got my 5796 from Xotic. The process was great and it arrived relatively quick. Man what a beautiful laptop this is I thought. A 9700 in 3d mark OUT OF THE BOX! Nice and sturdy.
Then I started to have issues. Phantom and randomly occuring noises coming from the fan engines, a "loose plastic particle" sound inside the laptop, flimsy keys "clicky" keys on a few of the F buttons and a very, very creaky edge near the front of the laptop just in front of the two clickers where the orange and black plastic meet.
Now hears my dilemma. Simply put, what should I do? I am going to prep school and I simply cannot have this laptop just die on me or slowly breakdown on me from these seeemingly flawed parts. Am I just being paranoid? I had an inspiron 6000 with a Pentium M before this and other then the loose hinges, the thing comforted me from a durablity factor whereas so far the 5796 hasnt.
I have spoken to Justin and we have discussed a possible exchange for a D901C.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!?![]()

I'm sending mine back tomorrow for an exchange for another 570tu
-
Should I try and get a 9262 for say an extra $400 or should I stick with a 570TU? This thing is worrying me!

This is the kind of thread I don't like to see when I'm about to probably purchase my own 5796. I've always read about these being rather solidly built... -
I have a P9500 and a 9800GT. 320 GB 7200RPM
-
Jaycee I would just stick with the 5796, the fan and case issues are pretty rare, but if its the keyboard thats bothering you, that isn't going to change even if you get a 9262

You said you were going to school with this beast, this is off-topic but I am going to make some assumptions that may not be correct, but may help out other people reading this. I can't tell you how many times I have had people order systems decked out for gaming, then call up and say, "When I was in class taking notes..." The D901C will be more power hungry, bulkier/heavier and possibly more fans (depending on GPU config). I would stick with the 570-TU, possibly a 860TU with external monitor (if it is going to be constantly transported).
IMHO, none of these systems is really designed for using in class at school, but instead desktop like replacement / gaming. If you are going to need a computer for in class stuff... save your $400 that you would spend on the D901C and get a small power friendly/non-gaming system. -
Any more opinions/recommendations. Are there any plans for a D901d or a sager 9263? -
How long will your classes be? The problem with the D901c is that its battery can only last an hour on average, or a bit more if you are clever with power saving settings. It would be of no use to you if you have to take it to several classes back-to-back, as it would run out of battery life shortly after the first class (assuming one class is one hour).
The D901C is also much heavier (though the components inside justify the weight). However, it is much more of a true desktop replacement due to the usage of a desktop processor, up to three internal hard drives, SLi capable, etc.
I don't think there will be a new revision of the D901c anytime soon. It is currently far too popular and in high demand to warrant a new revision. -
Thats what I figured ^
