    Just need to clear this up, I read that the gtx 260M is a smaller (55nm), higher clocked 9800M GTX (65nm). 500/1250/800 vs 550/1375/950.

    Ok now what I don't get is why didn't they allow the NP8660 have the option to put a 9800 gtx in that system, is it because of heating issues? Is the 260M gtx really better or equal to a 9800 gtx? I don't think it has more shaders than the 9800 gtx? Does anyone have the offical numbers and info on this? Would like to know what the 260M gtx is compareable to, thanks

    Well one thing I am sure is that 55nm certainly make less heat than 65nm.

    Well, it's... exactly what you said it is in your first sentence; a smaller, higher clocked 9800M GTX.

    The 98GTX can be put in the M86, but it's way too hot (ask kaltmond). Apparently the smaller core is way cooler for it to now be approved for this chassis.

    How about the stats on the gtx 260M? It has the same amount of shaders as the 9800 gtx? If its indeed a higher clocked 9800 gtx with same stats, then thats awesome that it can be put in a 15" notebook, because imo the 9800 gts is fairly a weak highend videocard.

    Yep, here you go:

    For comparison, the GTS 160M is the 9800M GTS.

    Is there no comparison to the 9800 gtx?

    Going by that table:

    shaders = processor cores.

    odd... the GTX 280m has more shaders but why the same GB/s as the GTX 260m?

    I tried googling info on the 9800 gtx so I can compare it to that table but can't find it, anyone find any? And is that table on page 1 accurate? And why is the shader clock and core clock higher on the 9800 gts compared to the 260M gtx?

    Its desktop part, so it can afford greater cooling. 260m GTX ought to perform like 9800 GT, if not better.

    Though an overclocked 260m GTX should have no problem ruining rings around desktop GTS, as there are 16 more shaders.

    9800M GTX? I do have an incomplete GPU-Z of that:

    [IMG]

    Then this is the Wiki chart on the desktop 9000 series:

    Found this stats on Wikipedia if its accurate:

    9800M GTX [9]

    * G92 core.
    * 128 Stream Processors.
    * 675 MHz core clock.
    * 1688 MHz shader clock.
    * 1100 MHz memory clock.
    * 256 bit memory interface.
    * 51.2 GB/s memory bandwidth.
    * 28.0 billion texels/s texture fill rate.
    * 420 GigaFLOPS.

    So it seems that the gtx 260M is not better than a 9800M gtx, if the chart on the first page is accurate, in fact according to wikipedia, the 9800 gt has the same shaders (112) as the gtx 260M

    So everyone agree the gtx 260M is NOT better than a 9800 gtx but slightly better than the 9800m gts?

    Nope, Wiki is wrong on that one. I also found my screenshot of the latest GTX revision:

    260M is definitely the superior card.

    Wait, are we comparing 260m to similar desktop GPU, or mobile GPU?

    260m vs desktop:

    260m<9800 GTX,
    260m=9800 GT,
    260m>9800 GTS

    260m vs mobility GPU

    260m= OC'ed 9800m GTX
    260m> 9800m GT>9800m GTS

    How much extra (if any) battery life can we expect from the 260M vs the 9800M GTX due to the smaller fab process?

    Maybe 10 minutes? I don't think that it'll make much of a difference. More than that, I'm more concerned about the pricing of an individual GTX 260m. Here's hoping it doesn't cost more than $400. I'm excited about the potential upgrade and all, but it'll seem ridiculous to spend 1/3 of what's the NP8660 worth to get a better card.

    well I'm happy they are much cheaper than the previous 9800m GTX ($290 cheaper to be exact). This is probably due to the smaller G92b chip they are built on (same chip as the desktop 9800 GTX+)

    johnksss has been given the price tag of $360 by an undisclosed vendor, but he's awaiting confirmation.

    I really hope it's true.

    Are you talking about the desktop version or the mobile version? Because, although I'm all about mobile gaming right now, I do know for a fact that the desktop 9800 GTX is better than the GTX 280m (higher clocked)

    Yeah you've been confusing me this whole topic. Are you talking about the 9800M GTX, or the 9800 GTX? There's a big difference here.

    Regardless, fitting the 260M into a 15" is indeed an impressive feat.
