    What does EVOC stands for?

Sorry, I know that it could be a silly question! But trust me I searched before I ask, and I got two different answers: 1. Evolution Computers & 2. Evolution Overclock

The thing is that the EVOC P870DM3 I ordered from HIDevolution is about to arrive soon, and I'm worried that people will ask me about the big "EVOC" on the back :) and I wouldn't know the answer!

Donald, that's clever, and I personally like Evolution Overclock. But maybe I should have tried to confirm the meaning of HID as well :) which I think stands for Human Interface Device ?

Yes, Human Interface Device = computer. Then the evolution part, referring to computers, is self evident ;)

HIDevolution originally started off selling HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlight conversions and bulbs.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20071209190201/http://www.hidevolution.com/

    http://www.evolutionm.net/forums/members/74646-hid-evolution.html

I mentioned HIDevolution to my friend and he wasn't aware they sold laptops. He was just familiar with the HID bulbs part of the business. He said he was roommates with a guy while attending school at Purdue whose sister is connected in some way to HIDevolution. Never got the rest of the back story on that one...

I don't know, this is a pet peeve of mine and I mentioned it elsewhere to @Donald@HIDevolution

EVOC is missing an L. Otherwise there is no way to permute the letters back to CLEVO!!!!

    :p

    I jest with you Fred...

No "L" in Sager, Eurocom, Pro-Star or Origin-PC either :)

    Would you suggest EVOCL? E-voc-l

I hope that Prema doesn't have a copyright on "C-Love" :D because I seriously like it! If I ever going to start a brand based on Clevo, I'll name it C-Love which could stand for many things :D Computer Love, Clocking Love, Sea Love, and...etc.

I had a similar question, I understand the base model is the Clevo. But really, what makes EVOC stand out from the Clevo brand? I heard somewhere that Clevo was based on some MSI laptops. Not sure if that's true.

Two totally separate OEMs. Clevo's designs are basically their own, as are MSI's.

EVOC is HIDevolution's in-house brand name for the notebooks it customizes. Those used to be just Clevo chassis, but the company recently expanded to offer MSI-based systems as well. My dad has an old Core2 laptop that was sold under the Crown brand but was built from an MSI shell. The CyberpowerPC Fangbook 4 is basically an MSI GT83 Titan, but at a much lower cost.

I just love how it sounds and looks... EVOC. Has an intimidating ring to it... awesome.

@MrCookieBin - what makes them stand out is the people more than the hardware. You can buy a Clevo lots of different places. There are a few PremaMod partners, and that is what is critical in terms of the hardware. Without @Prema firmware, I don't want any Clevo... period. (That actually applies to all laptops... stock BIOS and vBIOS suck.)

Beyond the hardware, the team at HIDevolution is what makes them so phenomenal.

Actually, EVOC is not based on any particular ODM (Original Design Manufacturer). We currently use both Clevo and MSI (which are ODMs) barebones chassis, but could use Quanta, Compal or any of the other ODM's barebones chassis if they were ever to come to the plate with a decent model. When we use any particular ODM's barebones chassis to produce an EVOC model, HIDevolution is the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).

EVOC ... HIGH PERFORMANCE SYSTEMS for the WIN!

Yes, it does now that you mention it. That makes it even cooler now, LOL.

Riddick movies are among my favorites, along with the series of Underworld, Resident Evil, Matrix, Mad Max and Terminator flicks.
