I'm thinking of buying a Sager NP3250 (Clevo W251HNQ) notebook, and wanted to know what kinds of hardware failures I might experience during its lifetime and how bad each would be to fix.
I'm running a Dell Latitude D505 right now from 2004, and during its life I've had to replace its hard drive, keyboard, and CCFL backlight (in that order). Overall it was very easy (and inexpensive) to find replacement parts and install them (except the backlight; that was a MASSIVE pain to install).
The hard drive would be a non-issue to find, but I've had a really hard time finding replacements for Sager/Clevo computers (keyboard, inverter, backlight, screen, etc.), and the few I have seen are at least 8x more expensive than the Dell ones I bought. (I'm assuming this is because there are so few Sager/Clevo products in the wild compared to Dell, and therefore there isn't a huge demand.)
So, has anyone had to go through something like this on their Sager/Clevo laptop? To the retailers out there, what kinds of age-related failures have your customers reported/asked for help with? Are there super-secret hardware replacement dealers I've overlooked? I guess I could contact Sager, but I have a feeling they'd charge me an arm and a leg for replacements since they could charge whatever they wanted, what with no competition. I just want an idea of what I might have to go through during the laptop's lifespan.

Replacements are easy, there are many resellers who can source parts directly from Clevo on this very forum. Prices are cheap. Backlights are LED now. They won't burn out. Keyboards are cheap. Honestly, I think the first thing you'll ever have to replace is the battery in 2-3 years. Everything else seems robust or more easily serviceable than any other laptop I've ever owned.
I've only had mine for 2 months so I couldn't tell you what wears out or not but everything on a Clevo is easily opened and easily replaceable by the user. -
almost 3 year old Nexus/m860tu bought from kobalt in the uk.
battery failed after 10 months and was replaced under warranty. as a wearable part batterys are only covered for 6 months - 1 year depending on supplier. i always left mine plugged in so its best to remove battery to prolong its life. mine is still holding a charge of 98% now.
9800GT graphics card died in march and as i took out the extra year warranty it was replaced under warranty with a faster 260GTX
otherwise best laptop ive ever bought and ive had a few. -

I think those particular series (9800) were infamous for having heat issues and were supposed to fail (and they did) within two years.
Or is it another model I'm thinking about?
@OP, don't get me wrong, NVIDIA is still a great company and churns out quality products, but they messed up this one time.

yup^^ no problems with heat for me but the 9800GT was the card that has caused the most problems with dying after roughly 2-3 years.
i would still only use nvidia
