This laptop i bought from xotic 2 years ago turned off when i was using it. Bought it to repair shop and was told they cannot power it on. I was told the motherboard is damaged and I have to buy another motherboard for this. I did not do this because I read that already costs a lot of money, I believe someone mentioned a sager motherboard cost at least $500? Then having it repaired could be another $200 minimum? Does anyone know if this is accurate?
The other issues are I had the battery replaced twice on this laptop. Basically had the Red X battery and got it replaced twice. This is the 3rd battery and it went bad as well. The other issue it has is ethernet port so you have to use an ethernet cable usb which isn't a big deal. I got this laptop from brand new from xotic pc 2 years ago from around $1300 I believe. But when you factor buying replacement and repairs , it added up a lot. I also had to get a screen replacement last time and had to go to a repair shop for them to replace it. Basically before the computer shut off, it was pretty much working fine except the battery went bad again. So if you have it plugged in, its fine.
I also have a 250gb ssd samsung evo on it but I took it out to put it on another new laptop of mine. So at the moment, no hard drive but i do have a spare 1tb hard drive 5400rpm that i checked online that is a WD thats worth around $55 on amazon.
First off, how much is this laptop worth?
And do people buy laptops where motherboard has to be replaced? I think if its a computer where motherboard is cheap, then yes. But if its a sager, what about that?

I would suggest to call Sager directly and get a quote from them for the motherboard replacement.

Since it's an HQ CPU, a MB replacement means a CPU replacement as well. All that's left is storage, memory, LCD, KB, and chassis, so not very much. Maybe $150-200 as a parts-only sale?

I don't think you'll make much on a system that has a bad board; you'd have to sell the system for parts. If you pull the memory and anything else you want to sell from it, and sell those components separately, you stand to make a little more (not sure of the current value).
What is my Broken Sager NP2740 Worth?
