What is the 8800m gtx comparable too in desktops?

What can the 8800m gtx found in the 5793 be comparable too in a desktop gpu?

Really? Wow I'm impressed. I've been deciding on whether to buy a desktop or laptop. If I was gonna go desktop I was going to put in either a 8800 gts (g92) or a 9800 gx2. But if the 8800m gtx in a laptop will perform as good as the desktop I was going to make, then I'm definately going with a laptop.

 

RAMBO is right, it basically equals desktop 8800 GTS

 

So now all I have to do is decide on whether or not to get the 5793 now, or wait for the 579(6?). I hope we find out whether or not 5793 owners will be able to support 9800 gtx like the 5796 is supposed too.

 

does the upgradability really matter? I don't believe any 8800m gtx owner would pay $700+ for up to 10% performance difference.

 

So it's confirmed that it will be UP to 10% performance increase? If that is the case, I'll probably just go with the 5793 and save on money. Plus I won't have to wait ! I guess I'm just obsessed with future proofing my systems, I want to still be using this 4-5 years down the line.

Hold on. What? 8800M GTX is ~ to 8800GTS (G92) ??? I think it has been established on this forum that the 8800M GTX cannot even beat the 8800 GT (since it has considerably less stream processors). The previous concensus has been the 8800M GTX is about the same as the OLD 8800 GTS 320 MB version. Please demonstrate otherwise if you will.

 

get 8800m gtx now and then GT2xxm next year or 2010. 4x faster

 

I'm not familiar with the GT2xxm. Will it be able to run in a 5793?

 

Actually I meant it was G80.

However, the 8800M GTX is close to the 8800 GTX (G80) as well.

The 8800M GTX seems to beat G80 GTS's... but is pretty close in performance to G80 GTX's.

is that not just the price you would pay if you bought the 9800m gtx new? if you buy the 570tu when it comes out, chances are you will only have to pay about 150-200dollars difference from the 8800m gtx

Actually I have both 8800m GTX SLI and a desktop 8800GTX.

I can say compared to that GPU-Z chart there my desktop 8800GTX has:

Texture Fill Rate: 38.7 GTexels vs 8800m GTX 28.0 GTexels

Pixel Fill Rate: 13.8 GPixels vs 8800m GTX 8.0 GPixels

Bandwidth: 86.4 GB vs 8800m GTX 51.1 GB

ROP´s: 24 vs 8800m GTX 16

There is definitely a difference between G80 8800GTX which still is a beast of a GPU compared to my mobile 8800m GTX variant

 

Still I find it pretty amazing they can fit such an beast of a GPU in a lappy
Altho I switched to only laptop at the time the x1800 came out

The 8800m GTX is really up there competing with some still pretty high end GPU.

Tearing through everything ive thrown at it yet in 1920*1200, with med-max settings, except one thing which needs not to be told

 

I have both a desktop with a 8800gts 320 and a clevo D901c with 8800m GTX and let me tell you that the 8800m gtx beats the gts hands down in everything ive tested.

 

If the 8800m GTX is comparable to the 8800 GTS.

Its hard to say, the GTS has a 16 GT texture fill rate whereas the GTX has 24- which is exactly the same as the 8800 GTS. The 8800M GTS falls in between the 8800 GTS and the 8600 GTS(10.8). The 9600 GT has a 20.8 fill rate. The ONLY difference between the 8800M GTX and GTS is the amount of Unified Shaders, 96 and 64, respectively.

 

It wouldn't really be $700.00, though.

I upgraded to an 8800M GTX from my 7950 GTX GO card for $740.00. However, I was able to turn around and sell my 7950 for $375.00, making the net cost only around $365.00. Granted, that was for a bigger performance increase than 10%, but I imagine you will be able to sell the 8800M card for a long time and for more than 375, at least to M57RU owners with 7950 or 8700 cards.

I'm pretty sure the 8800M GTX is about the same or slightly better than the desktop 8800 GTS 640mb... At least that's what most people said a few months ago.

 

Are the processors and ram the same on both systems? Also what about the OS's? Unless they are virtually the same you can't really compare.

Synthetic benches are not a good measure when comparing GFX cards. Use real game benchmarks to compare.
