Been having constant overheating problems with anything that only uses 1 core.

Re-did the paste and tested the system without the bottom cover on, worked great.

Soon as I put the cover on problem came back.

    Then I noticed this..

It was stuck right over the cpu fan grill, basically preventing any air from being sucked in.

Has my system been running for 3 years with a sticker blocking the cpu fan as some builder forgot to take it off?

Only reason I noticed it was because intensive programs with 1 core cause my cpu to spike into the 90c range.

    beh..

It looks like a badly-designed protector of sorts, or something to hold the fan in place.

Could you remove it and still run the fan and your computer fine? If so, obviously keep it off! Lol...temps and maintenance are important.

Yeah I took it off right away. It just peeled off, was a little sticky on the edges.

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't for anything.

But seeing how it completely covered the fan grill i couldnt see for what lol..

My NP8690 had that before, and many NP8690 owners decided to take it off because it was indeed blocking the fan grill. Temps would be lower if you had removed it; it was lower for mine then.

Still mind boggled about the existence of that plastic thing.

its there for a reason. been talked about many many times on here. its for heat distribution. might lower temps in the short time but other parts may start overheating soon.

    forgot to add,
it actually invalidated someones warranty as they rma'd it for another problem and the company refused to repair it.
this doesnt affect all companys though.

    I see.

Any idea why my temps would be going so high then? I re applied artic5 & the vents are all super clean.

System seems to run @ about 60c when idle. Seems kind of hot?

Soon as I jump into minecraft or morrowind cpu fan starts revving over and over and temps spike into 90c.

After taking off the sticker things have been running great, but you said it's needed so then my problem is something else. :(

a lot of people removed it and they was fine and others temps went even higher so its swings and roundabouts really.
im at work so cant link to it but check for the cooling centre page on here which gives threshold temps.
also might be worth contacting sager tech support just to see what they suggest as they might agree to remove it.

My suggestion: Look for a notebook cooler. A 60C idle temp is wayyy too high.

Today's CPUs hit the danger zone at 100C, approximately, and are set to throttle themselves around 95C.

    Looks like Kevin is right.

According to the specs I found here, the max temps for the 2630qm, 2720qm and 2820qm are all 100c.

I also found this article, which I thought was interesting. Out of date, but still good info.

What? SAGER refused it? What? You can repaste your CPU and GPU, completely disassemble your machine, and it doesn't void warranty, but remove a plastic sticker and it does? That doesn't sound like Sager at all. If they could come up with a valid reason for its existence, I'd be curious to know.

What you found called Tj max if my memory says true. I guess it is even written in data sheets. Tj max is maximum temperature CPU can handle only for short times. Normal temperature shouldn't be higher than 85 C.
There is a rule: if you have 5 degrees C cooler you will get lifetime twice longer.

@Mgarcia85 If that thing is so good then drilling 10 holes will not reduce heat distribution while will let air to be sucked freely.

I know a guy who had similar overheating only because of installing HP printer driver. Clean Windows install should help. What did you install before that overheating?

Sorry for doubleposting. I was sure I pushed edit button

Well Sager or Clevo reseller since this is the Sager and Clevo forum. But I forgot that Clevo rebrands are warranted and serviced by the individual dealer not Clevo themselves.

No actually it is just clevo. I remember the thread.

-Some resellers (system builders) remove the piece of plastic.

-Its for airflow distribution, like how MSI laptops don't have any holes there at all.
