    Have any of you tried bargaining with a reseller before buying? Besides the usual 3% cash discount, what kind of offers have you managed? Had any success in price-matching?

    Price matching usually comes with a caveat. Most resellers usually try to not price match by comparing the quality of service (e.g. 24 hour phone service) and saying if you do price match, they will be unable to provide the same level of service.

    I did manage to get a small ($30) student discount from one of the resellers, however along with the 3% cash discount.

    i would think if you're buying x model and juicing up all the available upgrades, i'm sure you can sweet talk a small discount. or if you're revolving door customer buying a model or two every year or more. but if you're intentions are i can get this samsung or asus at bestbuy for this much less, i'm pretty sure they'll politely decline to pricematch. i think people are forgetting that sager is kind of small beans, not quite ma and pa, but smaller than walmart/bestbuy. the resellers are there to make a profit and balance that ma and pa shop quality service too.

    If your looking for a p150hm based machine Eurocom seems to have the best price. After 10% student discount mine came to about $1250 shipped. Prices have gone up a bit since then but still very good.

    Specs: Matte 1080p, i7 2630, 4gb, 320gb, 6970m 2gb, 8x dvd writer.

    the only one I ran into that tried to pull that nonsense was Xotic. I talked to 5 resellers and they were the only ones.. i found that to be pretty silly. They're taking away their 24/7 tech support to avoid pricematching like $50? plus who's gonna need tech support so urgently at some ridiculous hour of the night that they'd miss that feature. Just call during their normal business hours.
    This maybe be true for dealing directly with sager, but honestly the reseller's are making a profit on stuff, so of course they'll have room to come down. most just straight up wont because they're small-ish companies and if they come down for one, others are going to want more off.

    Many consider Eurocom to be pretty shady though. Especially on this forum. others haven't had a problem with em though. didnt know that they offered 10% off for students though, thats cool.

    I presume several resellers are going to have some sort of back to school sale or somethin during these summer months.

    as for a discount, I had a 8150 i got from Mythlogic. Specs: 95% gamut matte screen (with pixel perfect guarantee), 120gb Intel 510, 500gb 7200 rpm, 2720, 485m, 4gb ram (upgraded to 16gb myself), 6300 wireless, external Blueray reader, 2 year parts & 4 year labor warranty, win 7 x64 professional (from school), MSO'10 student (also through school), and a Slappa sleeve.

    after upgrading the ram myself i paid a total of $2670 shipped. Mythlogic website for that config is currently $3481.80 +ship

    been told from several others that currently the max they've been able to get off from myth now is $75. dont think that even fully covers their cost of shipping lol.

    Wait, are you serious? 6970M for $1250??!

    I looked on Eurocom's site and that same configuration is $500 more expensive. At $1735 USD shipped to the US. Even 10% off is around $1600. Was it really that cheap at one point?

    Agreed with nllptr and hizzaah. One cannot claim to offer a discount on the price of a product and service, on the condition that the consumer will not receive that same product or level of service. That is basically offering an entirely different product and service that the consumer is then paying full price for, ie. there was never any discount to begin with.

    Good point, and also one of the reasons such threads are really detrimental to both consumers and businesses alike. Someone will (intentionally or not) inevitably mention the discounts they received, and name their reseller in the process. The outcome will either be people demanding that same discount from the reseller, or the reseller never offering it again, or both.

    I got 3 years of free warranty but it only includes labor -I could do all that myself but it's nice to have someone I can drive to that knows how to take everything apart the first time. Parts is only the standard Sager 1 year.

    I don't understand the logic behind price haggling when it comes to computer stuff :confused:

    I mean the price is commercially advertised. This is not a yard sale or flea market. If you don't agree to the price, DON'T BUY FROM THEM! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

    I will not buy from a seller that tolerate such tactic. The idea of treating each customer differently based on their aggressiveness doesn't please me :rolleyes:

    Why would you tolerate a higher price or reduced service than what you could possibly get it for? If you go somewhere else, the price might just be the same. Why not get a lower price than you can find advertised anywhere?

    Price matching, asking for discounts, etc. are all in the normal course of things if the reseller provides these options. Many times, they are just not advertised and you have to be aggressive and inquire about them or you're not going to get them.

    Don't be confused. People are not haggling or bargaining. They are asking resellers to offer them the best deal they are willing to offer in order for them to gain your business. I'm not going to a reseller and saying, I'll pay you $900 and he says $1500 and we meet in the middle. Resellers all have a profit margin they have over Sager's distribution price. Sager has a profit margin over Clevo's OEM wholesale price. Resellers are the most willing to negotiate on their margins in order to gain your business. That is the point of the final man in the distribution system.

    Whether anyone likes it or not, businesses are well within their rights to prioritize their customers, and different customers do receive different levels of service. It is why the resellers are more likely to receive better service directly from Sager than any one consumer. I am quite certain that one would not mind the resellers being aggressive with Sager when it comes to expediting orders or warranty services.

    To put it simply, resellers usually have their stuff together.

    The ones who can help you usually have it more together. They can offer to sell true barebone units without the GPU and get individual parts from Clevo.

    As for other parts, like graphics cards...
    You will find some interesting people out there...
    A company on Ebay has started showing me their stock of MXM cards, before they list them, and asking me a few questions.

    I can pretty much give my price. I mean, we have things worked out... ;)
    g92 = ~100$
    g94 = ~80$
    Anything MXM 3.0 B = ~200$
    Anything MXM 3.0 A = ~80$

    which is where I got my gtx 470m, not that I know if it works or not. also got some quadro FX 1800m gddr5 from them.

    There are also a number of resellers on Ebay who can't seem to get 200$ for a quadro fx 3800m, which is really surprising to me.
