A Clevo reseller in my region offers some nice options. Unfortunately, this reseller applies a huge and ugly vinyl sticker set on the shell. There's no way I can get a machine without this if I buy from them. Cosmetic modding does not void warranty for the internal parts, so I plan to remove the vinyl myself.

On a "clean" shell I should be able to remove the sticker with xylene or something. What can I safely apply to the rubberized surface?

Man, ask them to assemble yours without a sticker.
Im sure the barebones they get arrive without stickers, so just tell them not to put it on.

You need to make sure you are talking to a sales manager, someone on a higher position in the business and get him to promise you the laptop wont be with a sticker on it.

It may cost extra to omit it, assuming they otherwise don't refuse that option. Some Clevo resellers will not sell barebones to end-user customers either; only to dealers/other resellers.

That's good of them! Some charge to not have their branding because it's advertisement for them.

Really? What kind of charge a couple bucks or more? I would, seriously, have to reconsider the seller if they charged to have it removed, if I didn't want it. Like a car dealership, they aren't paying me to advertise for them.

Paying for the "no-branding" option is ridiculous on itself. They should pay >us< if they wanna put advertising stickers on our machines. That would be more reasonable.

If you remove the amount of money they should pay us from the total price, you get exactly the same result.

    With ad = low price
    Without ad = high price

I'm fine with a small and nice looking logo. What bothers me is that the sticker from this reseller is just insane.

I suppose it depends. They may only charge for shipping, which would vary by the weight of the unit.

if your on about the THX, HDMI and intel core stickers as well then they are quite easy to slowly peel off once you get a nail under the corner (finger nail that is).
also a lot of clevo suppliers (not all) will debrand the laptop if you ask but it sounds like your one wont :(
as a customer spending lots of bucks on these customizable laptops then i cant see why they wont remove them.
also advertising malarkey. the stickers are normally totally coverd by your hand on the palm rest so thats just an excuse.
