Hi, i'm a student from Denmark looking for a new laptop to replace my Alienware 14.
I really like the upgradeability of these laptop so i figured i'd get one.

    I need a decent i5 or prefeerably and i7 and a 970 with 8 gigs+ of ram and a 15" display.

Need it for light autocad work, programming and gaming.

My budget is 10.000DKK or 1340 euro including shipping taxes etc. any suggestions are welcome :)

    Hi
take a look through the range from mySN and you can configure each model to your own specification so it fits within your budget http://www.mysn.eu/

Check this one, it's currently on discount. A decent i7-4710HQ (though it's soldered so you won't be able to upgrade it, only GPU) and a 980M. If you add ~50 euro you can go with 16 gigs of RAM and a basic HDD, to add an SSD later.

/edit alright, missed the part where you need a 15". But still, may be a good option for you.

Yeah, missed that part. So you are going to move around with it a lot? I've been carrying my p150em when I studied in the university, it was bearable but a bit heavy still, 17 inch will be worse. But if you don't, 17" is worth considering.

Also, if you don't need a new laptop right now and can wait a bit, there is a new series of Clevo coming up in October with Skylake CPUs, so you could either pick up one of those or vendors might lower the prices on the current gen configurations.

Then this might be what you are looking for, but it's above your budget currently. Or look at other companies for this same model. There are probably discounts, also it might get cheaper when Skylake comes out.

Also, how important upgradability is for you? If you are going to replace your GPU and\or CPU with newer ones later you should get a 15", something like P751ZM

The c405 doesn't look capable of gaming.- Does the P751ZM have gpu upgradeability? - I'm looking for a 15" model

It has an i7 and a 970m - surely it is. But you have to pay a bit more for portability.
In P751ZM (or the same next-gen model) you will be able to upgrade your GPU and CPU(if you don't choose HQ soldered model) easily.
    http://www.ceg-hardcorecustom.com/product/ceg_nvidia_gtx_980m
here for example you can see a list of laptops (maybe not full) that use MXM and as long as the new GPUs are MXM you can upgrade.

There are many vendors, you'll surely want to find one with the lowest price

GPU - yes, CPU - no. Also you'll want to know which is the corresponding Clevo model when you decide to upgrade.

I cant find anyone who sells gpu upgrades for it. Eurocom got different names, if you got a link for one just so i know 100% that would be highly appreciated!

From what I see you can choose a GPU in this laptop, so it should be interchangeable. From what it looks like it is another brand based on Clevo, so to be sure which upgrade options are available I highly recommend to ask what is the corresponding Clevo model.

@Serty If you are looking for upgradeability, then you are better off looking at the P75xZM and P75xDM chassis. But those quite a bit more than the 1340 euro your budget permits. The P65xSE and P65xSG chassis are not upgradeable sadly, CPU- AND GPU- wise, so you can only upgrade RAM capacity and SSD/HDD storage.

Well, for me, most notable in EU are:

    http://www.mysn.eu/ (U505, U506)
    http://www.hyperbook.pl/ (X15, X15-G, X15DM)
    http://www.ceg-hardcorecustom.com/ (P751ZM, P751DM-G)

If you up your budget by around ~200 euro or so, you could build yourself an X15 from Hyperbook (former Bluemobility) with an i5-4460 Desktop CPU, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, GTX 970M 6GB; And the nice thing is, in the future you could upgrade it up all the way to an i7-4790K or i7-5775C, and for the GPU up to GTX 980M 8GB or whatever future GPU Nvidia releases and it is compatible with the MXM 3.0B standart. I think it is well worth the not-so-big price difference in the end... Especially if you think future upgradeability. :)

There are three models to look at on this page. Two P751ZMs ~ Hyperbook X15, Hyperbook X15-G and one P751DM ~ Hyperbook X15DM
    http://www.hyperbook.pl/index.php?m...ebook&osCsid=a999ab83e6c491469e092788f43c0148

    MrDJ's link to mySN in post 2 the P751ZM ~ XMG U505, P751DM U506

    Ninjaed :D

When looking at an EU reseller, it seems easier to know what hardware is inside and that helps identify the Clevo. If it's a desktop CPU, it's a ZM or DM.

You might consider the P157SM-A as well; last year's model, but all upgradable, up to 32GB ram, 2x2 RAID and still a 15.6" (!). Can do 4940MX+980M, if so desired. No measly system and a lot more bang/buck than the new models. Some of its stock displays are joyously beautiful, to boot.

Only thing; finding one may prove difficult. CEG claims they still have one, but that won't feature the AUO V4. Consider that panel for an after-market upgrade.

No desktop, mobile only. The V4 means the B156HW01 V4, it beats the Retina.

If you're going in the AutoCAD direction professionally, then at least make sure to get a model with upgradable gpu. Would be good to have the Quadro/FirePro as an option. Heavy gaming, too; gpu lifespan is limited.

Bulky has its perks, btw. More room for mods:

No, not higher resolution; higher gamut. The V4 is 1080p, but can do nearly 100% adobe RGB:

That's something you have to witness in person, though. Check $'s Photoshop-type monitors in a store; same image, except on a laptop. Bring current laptop (or borrowed one) alongside for a proper compare.

Looks great! :) i5-6600K and GTX 970M are a very solid choice, and you should be able to play any game at MAX or very, very close to MAX settings. Also you could overclock it (both CPU & GPU), when you feel like it, and get probably like 20-30% more performance out of it. :) Just be sure to add a second RAM stick when you can, so you can have it working in dual channel mode. Best of luck, and enjoy your new beast. :D
