Hey guys, I need some advice on what I should do when I first get my 9150.

Like a good list of programs to install to make the laptop run faster, possible guides to upgrade the machine, and other tips on what to do when you first get a new gaming laptop.

Make sure you have WinRAR, latest version of Java... There's not much to really speed up via software. MSI Afterburner if you want to overclock the graphics card first thing. HWMonitor, along with CPU-Z and GPU-Z are good monitoring programs that are really lightweight.

What programs should I put on my SSD and what programs should I put on my external drive?

I only have 128 gb on my SSD is why I ask.

You need to mention your specs, if you are getting an SSD or if you have just regular hard drives. It does matter as there are some tips and tricks to get the most out of the SSD.

Get a different web browser that isn't IE.

Install an anti-virus software, or several.

Be sure to download Java, flash player, any other necessary adobe software.

I think that should cover it.

I wouldn't recommend installing any applications on the external hard drive.

Should I cancel the external drive and just buy a bigger capacity SSD drive?

I wouldn't recommend anything beyond factory drivers for the 7970 at this point. Factory driver has issues but appears to be the most stable. My attempt to upgrade the driver to Slick's 12.6 caused a graphics failure that I had to do a fresh install of my OS to cure. I won't be attempting upgrade or OC until I can be 100% sure that AMD has sorted out the multiple driver issues with this new card. Slick's rig is an AW and they have many differences than Clevo rigs. Of course YMMV and upgrading may work like a charm for you.
