What would you like to see in a D901C/NP9262 successor?

This thread may seem a bit trite but I just wanted to let out some of the things I'd like to see in Clevo's eventual replacement.

Of course it'll be based on Core i7.

    LED screen

Better keyboard layout. I personally really like Dell and Alienware's 17 inch full keyboard layout. It's perfect. I don't really mind the 9262's. It's that the arrow keys are kind of small and the keypad, well, isn't bad. However, I REALLY hate the fact that there are no dedicated home/end keys. I don't know about you guys but those are keys I use pretty often. Dell and Alienware's layout preserves those keys as well as adding a traditional keypad.

HDMI - not critical but might be a good bonus.

Maybe mix up the port locations? USB all on the right, the rest jam packed to the left. Not bad but not great.

Lucid Hydra chip. Of course this is an unproven little piece of technology but if it were to pan out....no need to engineer a hack to run SLI or Crossfire AND you get better scaling, almost linear. But again, unproven.

Also, make the SD card slot deeper so the card sits flush when you stick it in. Again, not a major gripe but...would be nice.

Other than that, keep the machine exactly the way it is and I'd gladly buy up another one.

Anyone else? Any other ideas for additions?

Agree with the full keyboard with both home and end keys...but make it backlit (doesn't have to be tons of fancy colors, just a simple white backlight)

also add eSATA Port(s), and a compact flash reader in addition to the others already present

I'd love to see ATi jump into the competition. Maybe Crossfire?

Switch the Fn Key with the Ctrl key (Make Ctrl key) full size.

Well, it's simple really!...at least for me. In the order of most important...

    1. Intel's Nehalem Micro-architecture (Sporting the Bloomfield extreme cpu)

    2. Built-in FP Reader

    3. HDMI

    4. e-Sata

PS: Lighter in weight and longer lasting battery life

Quad SLI, not likely....c'mon, there's only so much you can pack into a notebook. If Larabee turns out to be all that it's cranked up to be, maybe pack that in there....maybe.

18-19 inch screen? C'mon, at that point, just get a desktop. That size might be well and good to look at but from a notebook perspective....That isn't to say that it's totally unfeasible..I mean, other manufacturers HAVE made notebooks in those sizes and who can forget Dell's Xps 2010. The notebook that comes with it's own carrying handle.

More Ram slots. Good idea. Maybe just one more to enable tri-channel once Core i7 ships.

    eSata. Another good one.

USB 3.0. Also good if it can be ready by the time this new magic machine gets built.

Also, one more thing I remembered. Change the mic location. Dell got it right on the money with their stereo mics on either side of the webcam. That's where it should be. Not near the bottom picking up keypresses. Or I could just get an external mic....

Keyboard backlight isn't a bad idea. Would add a little more sexy styling to the machine. Not really mission critical though.

BTW, I hope some of the resellers or Sager or Clevo gets wind of this. With such a dedicated bunch of Clevo/Sager people on here, I hope they listen to some of the feedback or suggestions.

home and end keys!! (so hard to press Fn + arrow key + shift when you want to highlite something..)

backlit keyboard would be a good add in, tho not really necessary.

like the memory card slot the way it is.. if the card goes too deep inside, usually my fat fingers can't get it out. ):

crossfire yeah? great to see both options avaliable, opens the market for clevo too.

better heat sinks to crap out all those heat.

and really really great if they could make this thing a LITTLE thinner, without changing it's original shape, so that it could easily fit into most 17" bags (i'm having trouble stuffing ,mine in everytime i bring it out.. ): (mainly cos of the rubber blocks at the back that elevate it)

bah and for show people, maybe make a glowing SAGER logo? (so alienware-ish)

i wonder if any of clevo's rep would be taking note of all this.. :0

I know it's not likely but that's what I would like to see. :)
But it would be really great if they could start sticking desktop cards in them,280 in Sli that would be really nice!

lol, not when the card is half the size of the actual chassis! But definitely a desktop corei7, HDMI, eSATA, USB 3.0, Crossfire and SLi support (like the Skulltrail), and a chassis that doesn't look like a lame box on an incline.

I would also add to keep it in the 17 inch range. 19+ inch notebooks didn't sell well (see Clevo M590KE, Dell XPS M2010, HP HDX) and I think the new 18.4 inch format will suffer the same fate. 16:10 > 16:9 ;)

I want it to have a 3D holographic projector and a personal teleportation unit with GPS tracking. Oh, and I guess the ability to tranform into sports car would be asking too much :D

Actually, built in GPS would be pretty sweet for smaller laptops. I used to have a USB GPS antenna for my 15.4" lappy. Was great on road trips, but I have a new car with GPS built in it now.

Sorry, I tend to get carried away when people make posts asking about the "future" this or that.

Better port lay out, back lighting, hopefully a way to shrink the size of the beast, also, the ability to transform into a sub machine gun, so I can finally have a Laptop Gun.
