What's the deal with the P180HM disappearing?

I know I saw another thread, or at least I THINK I did, on this subject and didn't know what was up. I'm worried because this is the machine I want to get... :(

Is there like... a new model soon to arrive or something? Because it's not very cool to know you get a 15.6" machine, a 17.3" machine, or a stupidly overpowered 17.3" machine that costs as much as a car.

I know Malibal still carries them but what's the deal?

Newer models are coming out, currently there is no comfirmed ETA. There's a chance new information will come out at Cebit later this week. I heard there would not be 18" model.

It's a piece of crap, that's why. Consider yourself lucky you didn't shell out 3 grand for one of them.

Out with the old in with the new. I think i can speak for everyone especially in the last 6 months ... we're all giddy for the new lineups. Not that the old ones were bad - far from it, just to have something new and exciting.

P270WM isn't for the same users. It's thicker and has a CPU with three times the TDP, along with smaller screen. Thus, clevo no longer has M18x competitor.

I was in the market for one as well, but since they are EOL, I'll probably end up going with the NP8170.

Is this the same thing that's happening with the w150hm/hr models? They seem to be disappearing from all the resellers, all anyone has is the version with the gt540 vid card instead of the gt555.

When is this going to be replaced, and is something going to be coming in the same line? (relatively cheap, mid range video card, still kind of light).

Just to be clear, there is no direct P180HM replacement. Next model will be similar (with SLI/XF Graphics) but 17.3" display.

Indeed, Clevo has no direct M18x competitor, but considering the fact that P270WM has a smaller screen but is thicker thanks to the better hardware and backlit keyboard, oh well :) I couldn't see a point to having a 1" larger screen when you've already got the two 17" you can choose between.

Hey it's 1.1". :p I chose the P180HM vs waiting on the P270 for a few reasons. Being able to manually silence the fans with the touch button was probably the biggest reason. Hopefully the new 17.3" P180 replacement will have that same option. Fingers crossed for Intel XTU on a moblie chip. Or at least an unlocked bios like in the M18x.

I've had a Sager 9860 that lasted for 7 years before finally fizzling out (currently trying to resurrect it for older games & movies, anyone know if the D900T can be converted to a F or other latter model by changing the motherboard?). While I saw many laptops come & go over that time, the rubustness and longevity of that machine precluded the need to buy another during that time.

Now in the market for a new gaming machine. I'd seen the 20", and 18" ones over the last few years and frankly I'd prefer being able to get something with a larger screen. Just shy of 50 years old your eyesight gets bad to worse and larger = better. Very disturbing that they are pruning back to only 17" screens - while that was nice on my old one, its 8 years later. I use 24" monitors at home, its quite an adjustment going on the road and losing nearly a 1/3 of the diagonal.

The 8170 seems economical (can spec how I want it for around $3200), the 9270 due out appears will cost right about $5000 similarly trimmed. Faster machine, but no better screen. How much performance loss between these and the larger screen models is there? (well obviously the 9270 its a big hit).

This factor of screen size has me perusing other manufacturer's models, though based on my experience with the Sager I'd hate to switch brands as that machine exceeded all expectations.

See, the funny thing here is that I don't think you can get a P270WM for under $2K. :p

I am just sayin'. Not to mention I think the P270WM will become more appealing when they add the 3820 to the list instead of just the 3930K or the 3960K.

I would appreciate it if you didn't ask why and comment against my choice of potential purchase of what I'm buying if I don't ask "Should I should buy it?"

It's incredibly rude and doesn't help the situation. My budget puts me into the mindset of where I'm at. Questioning someone like this is not the way to go. You're less likely to be seen as a helpful person if you constantly contradict and support the person who's entirely against the item of choice. FYI this is a site where you HELP people find the right choice. If all you do is support a guy who says the computer is a piece of junk with no proof of that statement being true, and then offer a machine that's well beyond the budget area? Why? Customer Support. Learn it.

The P180HM is still available on Ebay too. Should I try to snag one of those instead?

Would it be proper etiquette to ask those with ill opinions of the PH180 to speak up and state their case rationally?

I only ask because I am currently debating whether or not to wait for the Ivy bridge version of the 270 or succumb to my desires and grab a 180.

The only potential the 270 seems to have over the 180 is the processors, both systems seem to be cumbersomely large and weigh in around 13lbs so theres not much to decide between when it comes to size and weight.

The setup that I constantly re-asses with Mythlogic clocks in at around 2700, saving they keep their dual 6990m option(it dissapeared for a while, scared me!) or is the Single GTX a better option? it's merely a $33 dollar upgrade...

The 270 is already touching 3k, as the TC mentioned, that price will undoubtedly increased quite a bit once the Ivy Bridge option is include.

That said, the most intensive work I do problably ranges around HD video capturing and editing, will the i7-2860QM be sufficient for those purposes?

I wouldnt take much heed from this person's posting.........alot of jibberish, the user doesn't know much about the P180hm even though he has one. Its a fantastic laptop and is blazing fast. If you can still score one with the Xfire 6970m's or 6990m's its well worth it.

Oh I have one, I was mostly wondering if there was a common problem I should be on the lookout for (overheating or something). Especially since most of what I see on here is positive with a few problems here and there (as with any product).

There are no known problems with these laptops. As you have stated, mostly positive with a few problems sprinkled in but what laptop won't have the occassional hiccup?

As Ntrain has stated, poster has very few post and they are jibberish. He is likely a troll, and we know not to feed trolls. :D

Currently, the newer model to the P170HM is just labeled as P171HM at this time if I am not mistaken or NP8171 if you are going by Sager labeling.

We really can't tell you much more than that at this time due to NDA, which should be lifted April 5th from what we are being told. That too may be subject to change though.

If Clevo doesn't release a successor to the P180HM, I'm grabbing a refurb M18x. They're all over the place on Ebay for retard-low prices.

Like this one that's been re-listed for the past two months and no one wants to try it because it's a refurb.

What's there to lose? If it's defective, you'll know within the first few days usually. Not to mention it comes with a standard basic year warranty if it does happen to be screwy!

I really wanted a P180HM... but the other Ebay sellers, whom I had been watching for a while, took down the four listings half way through the time they were up. I looked to see in their logs to see if they were sold and they never said. Asked them and they just said that no one was interested so they were selling them locally. D:
