To me after customization, they both take desktop CPUs and a 980GTX, so what's the difference and which is better?

"NVIDIA® G-SYNC™ Technology" seems to be all.

The 9772-S was taken down off of Sager's site, but the 9772 is still available.

The 9772 only has the options listed for the Quadro cards for graphics cards, while the 9773 / 9773-S has the GTX cards. So it looks like that is going to be your biggest difference as far as I can tell.

G-sync with a little bit of refresh rate overclocking could be really fun for 980M sli setups :) It's a small but significant difference.
