What kind of features / upgrades you'd like to see done by Sager/Clevo for 2012 and beyond?

hopefully our resellers could send this to the company to be implemented :p

    here's mine.

    1. Better speakers, it's ok but it can be better.
    2. option to buy and replace this generation's keyboard with a backlit keyboard (which i doubt would happen)
    3. standard key placement, home and end key being their own keys without the need for the Fn button, the . key beside the 0 key in the numpad. etc...
    4. options for different touchpad textures
    5. official site where we can download the latest drivers, i appreciate the effort done by the latest clevo drivers thread but it wouldn't hurt to get some support from the manufacturers.

According to the info that we have, yes they will be optimus top to bottom (With few exceptions), also everything in the P series right now will be based on the HM77 chipset which means RAID + OC'ing =)

Oh wow, I might be returning to the Clevo family...

Any support for ODD as SATA port 1?

The HP 2560p has SATA 0 bay as HDD and SATA 1 as ODD, so they allow 2 sata3 drives in a 12.5" chassis with full power CPU(socketed) as well as 2 Sata 3 bays, with Expresscard slot for eGPU.

I'm drooling over something like that,

but personally I've never seen any vendor connect an ODD to a SATA3 port.

A 15" Ivy Bridge model with a resolution higher than 1920x1080 and physical hotkeys.

And a "silent mode", if the P150HM lacks it.

I know they are supposed to be gaming laptops but I use by Clevo for software development. SOftware devs spend tons of time in front of the screen and, I generally need high performance. My compile times for larger projects can be pretty high, working with web servers and large databases, and having tons of browser tabs open, searching through millions of lines of code from my local copy of source, working with large txt files, log files, and SQL Server databases -- all these things require a good machine.

But a developer mainly needs SSD + RAM + CPU. Clevo works well for these but the part I don't need is the graphics card. I can get by without the discrete GPU and the extra fan it requires. So having a model that can run with the integrated graphics, with a slimmed down chassis, longer battery life, and lighter weight would be awesome.

But I can't complain because I'm pretty happy with the Malibal I just ordered. It's more powerful than the highest models of 2011 macbook pro's, at less than half the cost.

    So basically:

    - Runs on integrated graphics only
    - <=4.5lbs
    - At least 4 hours of battery life on normal use (Office apps, coding, browsing)
    - Thinner than current models.
    - Similar thickness to MBP's (a little thicker than MBP would be fine).
    - Cutting out DVD drive, discrete GPU & the associated cooling, subwoofer, I would think, would make it possible to achieve this slimness.

This type of model would appeal to business users, software/IT professionals, and other enthusiasts who don't need to play games.

+1 to the ginormous power brick, a longer cable from the brick connecting to the laptop also wouldn't hurt.

While I don't need/use super-high graphics card either, I don't necessarily agree on case dimensions.

For software development (C, C++, C#, Java along with Postgres, SQL Server, Sybase, etc.) on multiple platforms, the size of the laptop doesn't bother me. I *want* the capability of placing 4 HDDs in the x7200/P270WM. I want a system with an effective cooling system to keep my components cool and safe, rather than run into possible overheating issues of the MBPs. I could use 48-64GB of RAM. Heck, if I could have my cake and eat it to, I would even like to see multi-CPUs.

To me, those features (which are probably not possible in a slimmed down case) go a long way in helping me with work than something like shrinking case dimensions.

Thickness, battery, backlit keyboard...I'm pretty satisfied as it is... thickness is the only thing I really care about..

cooling should be better since the newer gen cards will be 28nm

acklit keyboard? you 100% sure? can a previous owner(polluxx14xx) upgrade the keyboard?

Beside, a rubber paint on palm rest area would be appreciated(like on envy 14 beats edition)

An 95% IPS would also be nice, I'd pay an extra 250bucks for this.

This is not possible with current Clevo/Sager laptops (anything 2011 and before) as there is no connection to supply power for the light source.

The keyboard is also physically a different size (its thicker) AND with the new layout it won't interface properly with the EC so the EC won't know what keys mean what so it won't work very well as a keyboard :p

Since the chassis appear to be fairly similar, I wonder if a motherboard swap will be able to upgrade a P150HM to a P150EM with a backlit keyboard.

I care the most about features that can be found in business laptops, so I would like to add:

    - Rugged chassis (Magnesium alloy or Carbon Fiber)
    - Spill-resistant keyboards
    - Smart card reader
    - GPS and accelerometer sensor (I can use them to develop lots of cool applications :) )

Oh a wish list! Here's my list and I don't care if it's been mentioned. Some features we might have already, and I re-iterate so they don't decide to eliminate.

    1-Thinner & lighter
2-Matte Bezels & Chassis, perhaps something other than plastic (yuck)
3- A)Better. Better. Better keyboard with standard number pad please! B)Num-pad on both the 15" and 17"+ D)Backlit keyboard with ability to control like Alienware's. D) Get rid of the Fn and Windows key from the left side!
4-Keep improving screens (they did a great job this year offering wide varieties, like matte, glossy, high gambut, 120Hz, 3D glasses or no glasses options)
5-Keep the Optical drives on the right as they did.
6-Options for Best gaming Wireless cards "WITH" bluetooth. (Killer & Intel). I can't believe we can't have both!
7-Optimus / switchable graphics across the board! Even on 3D screens.
    8- Z68 chipsets or latest
    9-Various touchpad surface choices.
    10-Quieter touchpad buttons
11-Option for Touchpad with capacitive screen (like the Razor Blade)
12-Options for Best speakers available please! P170HM has nice placement, so keep it up.
    13-Dedicated volume buttons
14-HD webcam. Current 2 megapixel ones stink real bad.
15-Bigger capacity battery while keeping it slim as possible
16-Smaller AC power brick (if possible)
17-Smarter Fan abilities & controls. Like why do the fans have to stay on if laptop is just sitting there?
18-All USB 3. And spread them out some on left, right, and back.
    19-PCI 3
20- Thunderbolt (Lightpeak). It's about time!
21- Super small form factor SSD's. No reason to keep them so gigantic like legacy HDD's. (Not Clevo's fault, but would eventually like to see SSD's in small form factors)
22- Why do they continue to offer 5400rpm HDD's? Messes me up when trying to configure :)
23- a)Backup DVD of system & OS option then B) Option to get real OS disk, not just on partition.
24- 15"+ screens with full 1080p options across the board. It's a deal breaker to see 15 inchers without that option.
25- Would like to see something higher than 1920x1080
    26- 16:10 aspect ratio screens
27- No skimping on service options. Base option should be minimum 1yr in order to instill confidence in their products by consumers other than us enthusiasts.
    28- Easier to overclock
    29- Some good software bundles.
30- Easy to obtain "updated" drivers from one central website. Getting tired of looking all over the place.

And final wish? Cheaper prices of course!

The chassis is the same EXCEPT for the motherboard tray is slightly deeper to account for the thicker keyboard, and there is a port change on the side. So could you do a mobo swap + backlit.. Yes as long as its only the depth that changed and not the width / height. However, then your keyboard would not be flush with the rest of the laptop.

Also you would have to get a new CPU with your motherboard (IVB/SNB compatibility on the mobile side doesn't exist) so your talking a grand already :p

Not really, as the SIZE of the screen matters a LOT more than the resolution, even if its one giant pixel you still have to backlight it and thats where the power is.

There's quite a lot of features I'd love Clevo/Sager to work on, but they apply to different models. So here we go:

    Ultrabook Version:
15" screen with 1080p/1200p in smaller body (IPS / high gamut would be nice)
ULV i5/i7 ivy bridge with unlocked bios to allow further undervolting
Low voltage RAM (again with control in bios)
    Remove Numberpad for size decrease
Remove speakers and just invest in better headphone amp
Better webcam (better lens, even if resolution needs to be lowered)
Better touchpad + "red dot" option (like thinkpads)
    better keyboard (softer keys)
    lighter construction materials
    small power brick
    HDMI + thunderbolt + 2 USB 3.0 ports
    3x3 wireless cards
    > 8 hour battery life
    < 4 lbs.

    15" Gaming Version:
    Matte Body
    Smoother touchpad and/or red dot
Better keyboard (softer keys) + backlighting
    remove speakers and improve cooling
    better headphone amp
    lighter build
    lighter + smaller power brick
ability to control voltages of CPU
    2 HDD Bays w/ SATA 3
    No ODD
Media buttons (no "Fn" button) while removing numpad (optional)

1.4 kg with a brushed aluminum look, 14" Edge2Edge panel, 4 USB ports (2x3.0 2x2.0), HDMI, D-SUB, I don't think you can get this much ports on other ultrabooks. That's decent I suppose.

I would love to see some kind of interface where I can connect an external PCI Express X16 card slot for an external video card when I'm not on the road.

improved cooling would also be nice for those of us who like to overclock.

2 HDD bays would definitely be very high on my list.

Optimus on the gaming models will also be a godsend. I'll probably give my current laptop to my brother if there was a choice to get an Optimus enabled NP8130/8150/8170.

Non-changing MXM standard so I can potentially upgrade my GPU down the road.

Indeed, but Optimus is just too buggy, but on the other side if Optimus does get fixed and works remarkably well I would assume it would be a amazing tool to save battery
