Any one knows when Sager will be coming out with options for the Penryn Quad Core processors (45nm) in their laptops?
-
Well, from what I know, the Penryn CPUs aren't quite there on the market yet, so it will take a few months for Clevo to make them work (I believe that they require a new motherboard).
-
they already have the Q6600 working.. and thats hotter so i'm sure if they decide to not that long... mind u the top penryn plain quad is impossible to get past 3.6gigs on desktop mem due to a low stock multi .. (which is kind the limit of the Q6600 any way in a "desktop environment")... ohh and the 45nm quads are all 1333 fsb.. so thats quite a jump also.
so they may not bother? not like you will really get battery life with any desktop cpu in a laptop. the temp change is 5-10 but if i remember in a Desktop environment that may translate to nothing meaning full in laptop.
are they acting going to make special quads purpose made for laptops? or did cooler penryns + Q6600 already working star that idea.
if your a gamer i wouldn't wait 360 still has a good 3-4 years of life left in it and 90% of pc games over that time period will be 360 ports in my opinion.. clock for clock a decent duel core is fast enugh to match the 3.2 3core of the 360.
kind of a abstract way of looking at it but it was def a trend with this years releases. and with assassins creed recommended 2.2 duel core aposed to require 3.2 single i think your pretty safe staying duel for this generation. -
My concern is that Penryn is here to stay for the near future and anyone that has a 9262 and wishing to upgrade in 6 months or 1-2 years will need to get a new motherboard to have the capability to put in the Penryn chips; which will not be possible until Clevo comes out with the new Penryn capable motherboard.
So $4,000+ now and another $775-1K motherboard later plus the going price price ($???) of a new Penryn Quad Core chip?
For those thinking of getting a new 9262, waiting until the new board comes out may be a better use of your money.
I read that the QX9650 is already out (@ $995).
You can see a review at http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/intel_qx9650_yorkfield_penryn_processor_review/
And I quote..."But don't expect a huge leap in overall speed with the QX9650 seeing this is more of a manufacturing process technology change rather than a huge leap in overall processor performance at this time. Sure there are some improvements such as the inclusion of the SSE4 instruction set, but there are at this time two programs (DivX 6.6.1 with VirtualDub 1.7.2 & TMPGenc SSE4 version) that will be supporting the newer specification within the recent foreseen future. The speed is the same at 3.0Ghz and has the same 1333Mhz FSB as the QX6850 although the onboard cache has been increased to 12Mb from the 8Mb seen on any 65nm Kentsfield." -
Let's just wait until Clevo actually gives them a green light.
-
I read somewhere, maybe this forum??, that Clevo might be holding of until CeBit which is next month.... would be a nice treat if they surprised us all with something new along this line of discussion.

Just rumors, nothing official. Some people just said that they might hold off, but I could say it and you could say it, doesn't mean it's going to be true.
When is Sager coming out with Quad Core Penryn processors?
