Thinking about upgrading but was wondering when prices will come down. Do you think by January?

They are about to do a refresh but I didn't bother to look at when... I would bet it'll be feb - march.

That said, the day after X-mas, the real sales begin IN STORE. Everyone tries to dump the laptops/desktops they couldn't sell for the holiday.. So, from a best buy/office depot perspective, the prices in store should drop $100 - 200 right after Xmas.. But, most in store models suck.

I'd buy one that is stock but has lots of room for upgrades and then order the parts yourself.

Please note that ALL Sager resellers have the "Price Protection Policy" in place.

You would be refunded any difference if the prices did drop before the end of the year. ;)

I don't believe those apply to throw-ins and free upgrades from special promos though, so it's still wise to wait.

The best thing to do is configure your current setup, then save it as a quote. Then load the quote from time to time to see if the price drops. So far for me, the drop is only $50. I'll wait until near Christmas.

The best time would have been Black Friday, but like as everyone else said, holiday sales are around the corner. Also, I don't think you will ever find a Sager notebook in a mainstream store, maybe some local shops, but I can't imagine prices being very good there.

Prices don't drop, clevos just get replaced fairly quickly.

It is also good to note that shipping times may get a little longer...

as we get closer to the Christmas rush with the FREE UPS Ground that resellers are offering. :)

if you want to wait, you have to wait till summer for a new refresh to be available with ivy and 28nm. If you want deals, be prepared to wait 11 months :)

Yes, well said. You wait for either new tech or better prices, not both. :D

Right now the Alienware M17x configured the same is cheaper, which is why I'm asking.

Impossible for a worthwhile config unless you use a 25% off Alienware coupon. Your mistake may be trying to get the 1600x900 display onto the P170HM. Stick with the FHD, for a 17" you'll need it.

    ^^^

    What boukyaku said.

If you price quote something now, then likely you'll pay the same for it later down the road. If there is a refresh, then your configuration may or may not be less, but it will be the latest.
