I was thinking about upgrading my CLEVO P150HMx or Sager NP8130 to a 7970M anywhere I can get one for less than 400$ US?

Make sure you buy a Clevo card. There are plenty of Dell cards listed on eBay, but they don't work in Clevo laptops.

Also be aware you will need a larger power brick. Also from the above do you mean you are running a dell card or a card that was listed to work with dell machines (that clevo cards are often advertised as being).

Yeah I know you need the 180W PSU. Do the Dell cards not work with Clevo's? Even after the Enduro vBIOS mod?

I believe Mythlogic said Dell video cards are incompatible with Clevo ECs, so the fans won't work properly and it will overheat. Clevo cards are a rare find these days, and you have to get pre-8970m-era versions of the card. Anything made after the 8970m was released are re-badged and do not work, even if they're Clevo-branded.

The fans will work but the EC panics and shuts the machine down when it does not get the right data from the GPU.
