I was going to install a secondary HDD into my P170, but when I opened it up and removed the mounting bracket, there was no insulation plate attached to the bracket and subsequently no screws for an insulation plate, so I am unable to install my secondary HDD.

I bought the P170 from XoticPC, are the P170's supposed to come with the full secondary HDD bay assembly or just the mounting bracket? If they forgot to give me all the parts, that makes me a little disappointed.

So should I just contact XoticPC directly about the parts I need even though it's been over a year since I purchased it?

Its without any plate. The HDD is kept secured by the cover (it should have rubberized stripes beneath).

Watch the XoticPC review of the P170EM and there Justin (I believe) explains it.

It doesn't have rubberized strips at all, just the plate, and no screws.

You're missing the entire plate and the screws from under the optical drive? Even if you order the machine without a secondary drive, it should come already in place if you need it later. Contact your retailer to find out if it's possible it was removed/missing.

Well I just emailed XoticPC, i hope they will be kind enough to send me the missing part. After all there is a 3 year warranty on this notebook, just dunno if it covers missing parts like that.

Can any XoticPC reps clarify this for me?

They won't be kind to send a missing part, don't worry if it was missing they'll have to send it.

Technically, they don't HAVE to do anything. Which is why most people don't make assumptions of service and get everyone hopes up. However, Xotic is a reputable company, and they will likely help the OP with any missing parts. I would avoid making assumptions about a resellers service on behalf of other people. These companies are not really obligated to wait on us hand and foot, because Sager is likely the one that forgot the parts, but most of them try their best to help us with these issues. We can not take this level of service for granted, because it is rare enough in the world as it is.

You are wrong, they do HAVE to do something as this user purchased a 3 year warranty of all things. (you realize that re-sellers do make a profit, and hence take some responsibility?)

Obviously you didn't read what I wrote, because I wasn't saying they wouldn't do anything and had no responsibility. Sager forgot the parts, Sager will fix the issue, thus it technically isn't the resellers responsibility to replace the parts themselves, however the re-seller, in this case Xotic will likely contact Sager on behalf of the customer and have the issue rectified.

Also, with regard to your first post, I was trying to be nice and say that just because the parts are missing, doesn't mean we assume that we are entitled to everything, and should take their service for granted. We're lucky to have the quality resellers we do, and as such we should not treat them like we are entitled to their service, because we're not, but they still give us good service anyways. Nine times out of ten they will look after minor parts issues no questions asked. All I really was suggestion is we should show a little more appreciation to our resellers and their excellent track record for resolving minor concerns.

Additionally, I think you should study the word "warranty". Warranty covers a product after the return period expires from manufacturers defects and failed equipment. No where in their warranty does it cover lost and missing parts. The fact that he bought a three year warranty is irrelevant to this issue. Please don't say I'm wrong, just because you don't understand the difference between a warranty and a return policy. The return policy would cover all defects in workmanship and parts for the first 30 days.

Yeah so stop making strawman arguments. They have to DO something. Whether sager is involved or not is not really relevant to us/the buyer. That's more of something for the reseller to think about.

The whole point of everything I've said is that the OP said he asked nicely for replacement parts and then you barged in and basically implied he was entitled to them, and to not ask nicely as such. I was trying to not come on out and call you names and in general be a jerk (and ultimately follow the forum rules). I was just suggesting that a little more respect for our resellers is appropriate. As of now, this argument is pointless, and I'm getting tired of trying to be nice. My argument is far from "strawman", and was ultimately lost upon you.

    tl;dr:

Ask nicely like the OP did, and almost all the resellers would help you in a heartbeat. Make demands as it appears you would along the same lines and you'll likely just P!## everyone off. Be nice, it gets you further in life. I think my argument is clear enough now.

What? I never called you any names there.

Also he IS entitled to his HDD bracket, why are you correcting me when you're clearly wrong buddy?

I would recommend to you to stop wasting everyone's time. I merely reassured the buyer. You on the other hand are trying to suggest that a warranty is useless, which it isn't.
