Where can I get an edp cable for P67x models which will work with a 40 pin/4 lane edp interface?

    Hi Guys,

To make the long story short, I would like to replace my display from this:
    http://www.panelook.com/LP173WF4-SPD1_LG Display_17.3_LCM_overview_24463.html
    to this:
    http://www.panelook.com/B173ZAN01.0_AUO_17.3_LCM_overview_25358.html

I've already got a positive answer from @t456 in terms of compatibility of the new display with the P670 in this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...o-uhd-panel-inside-a-clevo-p67x-model.786469/

The tricky part seems to be the edp cable. The LG has a 30 PIN connector while the AUO has a 40 PIN connector. Can anyone get me a cable or recommend a seller who sells these? :)

"There are so far only a single notebook display with 4K resolution in 17.3 "called AUO B173ZAN01.0. This panel is based on a novel design in which the control Eletronik (which has always been found on the display back) now extended underside of the panels. There is currently no reason to believe that in the future a 17.3 "display is to come in the classic design on the market. The new design is not compatible with the display lid of the XMG U706. The Panel AUO B173ZAN01.0 is therefore currently offered by us exclusively in the XMG U716 whose display lid is specially designed for this new panel design. "

    U716=P775DM

Caught this on Mysn.de website a few months ago, so beware of this. (the P870DM also has the Auo as an option but it is a recent model). Sorry, but i bet that the AUO is also physically incompatible with the P67x models lid, just like the P7xxxM´s (except the P775DM, of course).

They use the same mounting system and the AUO is even slightly smaller than the P771DM's LG. Worst result is a little gap between the panel and the front bezel, the AUO being 2.4mm thinner. A simple mod would alleviate even that; pad bezel from the inside with four strips of black felt, tape or rubber.

Of course, that's not something you'll see offered by a reseller (hence ' not compatible'). And the kinky design of the P870DM-G's display lid makes it incompatible with any of the other models.

Here are the original LG and the AUO UHD specs side by side:
    http://www.panelook.com/modelcompare.php?ids=24463,25358

@t456 is right. With a little mod ( which btw I would expect from a seller who sells and repairs custom laptops for many years ) the AUO should fit perfectly. I even talked with XMG in the reseller thread and in email about this, and they did not mention that it is not possible. Only that the display wouldn't be covered by their warranty. They even said that I am free to do it myself or with a local notebook repair service provider ( who of course works with Clevos ).

Right now I am looking for that nasty 40 pin cable. :) If anyone has ideas how to get it, then I open to suggestions. :)

Well, if that´s the case then i might do the same upgrade on my ZM. :D That is, when the 15" 4k AUO comes out.

I'd suggest talking to Eurocom about buying a standalone 40 pin EDP cable for the 4K AUO. I was able to convince them in the end. The person I messaged through sales at first seemed reluctant because they usually sell them as full kits (4K screen and EDP cable) for those wishing to upgrade. I already have the 4K screen I just need the cable now which ships out today if it already hasn't. Just waiting on the tracking info from Eurocom. If enough people ask Eurocom about purchasing the 4K EDP cable or other standalone components, I imagine they might even make it a standard that you can buy individual pieces of a kit if needed.

In the end I decided to buy the 15 inch Clevo ( with 3k display ) for better portability, but I asked Golden Star UK before and they would provide this cable for 15 GBP + packing&shipping. I got multiple offers for the 4k panel itself. The best one was around 60 000 HUF ( which included the replacement work also ) . This is about 200 EUR.

@Akaraah If You get the cable and the new screen, then please post some images, and a review ( also if You had any difficulty during the replacement process ). I am really curious! :)

Sure thing! That was already my intent :D I already have some high-res shots taken of what the laptop looks like stripped down and of the current/stock EDP cable for the p870dm-g. The video(s) for the teardown via Eurocom are great guides as well, but are a bit too low-resolution for my taste as it's hard to make out anything besides shapes and some of the more obvious components (but components you'd like to see extravagant detail like the EDP that connects to the Motherboard are hard to make out).

So on and so...Eurocom told me it won't ship until Tuesday (UPS next day air) so chances are I won't be able to have everything done until Wednesday night so that's the day to lookout for.

Quick update: My cable from EUROCOM is out for delivery today as of 8:14 am and has a commit time of 12:00pm today. :D Though delivery time is a bit wonky since I live on a military base (army) so I may not be able to pick it up until later, but in any case, I'll be making a thread and providing photos of the entire process tonight so I'll share a link to it once I've done everything. I'm especially curious if G-sync will still work since my GPUs are G-sync but the 4K screen is not G-sync certified yet. With all that said, I'll keep everyone posted. I may structure the thread as a "how-to" guide for those who wish to do the same and don't want to risk physical damage of their machine. Until then...cheers! :)

UPDATE (1:25pm) Just picked up the cable at the post office and verified it's the correct cable. Looks like we're in business! Once I get home from work I'll get started soon after.

    Excellent :)

G-Sync does need the right display firmware handshake too so I doubt that will work.
