Ebay and the like. To a single 980, no unless you find it cheap.

Not really worth it no, also what do you need bios wise in terms of options? I'm not aware of custom firmware for the machine tailored to that.

best to go with a 1070 instead :) the 980 will give you about 35% performance boost over a single 980M

Unless you tweak the 980M of course which is another avenue to consider if you have not.

At peak about the same as a lightly factory overclocked 980 desktop card.

The issue is more with the VRAM in my experience. I pushed my previous 980M (BGA with all 6 core FETs present) up to 1400MHz at 1.2V, but it was still slower than a stock desktop 970 in bandwidth heavy games like Crysis 3 and Far Cry 4 because the VRAM could not even reach 6GHz stable with that core clock.

Mine with a little voltage love did slow down with all VRMs populated due to the noise but they still ran at 1500-1550Mhz with a Vmem mod. Not quite the 1750Mhz of the 780M cards but still reasonable.

impressive, thatll surely close the gap to the 980 desktop and even surpass it lightly :)
