I'm not too happy with my default screen so i will upgrade to the 95% gamur screen at some point. I'd like to be able to buy it from an actual business but i suppose thats hard to do right? I live in the US btw.

Also as far as replacing it myself, i am a little nervous to do so, not that i won't be able to, but i know i'll get dust under the screen or something. Do local pc shops usually do laptop screen replacements for you for a service fee? I wonder if they would let me give them my own screen for them to replace it with.

I guess i'd just have to call some local places to find out.

Use HWInfo to find the name of your screen. That's where I would start.

Thanks, it looks like i have the LG Display LP173WF1-TLC1

I checked out this site for the AU Optronics B173HW01 V.4

    http://www.lcds4less.com/AU_Optronics-laptop-lcd-screens/B173HW01_V.4.shtml

Looks like a decent price, i will definitely consider this in the near future. I will probably email that site for more info if there's an even better screen. Now i just need to figure out how i should replace the screen without getting dust under it.

I would contact your reseller. They'd have the most information available :)

The 95% matte screen is for the 15" models.. You have an 8170 right? You can get the 90% glossy for your 17".. Mythlogic will sell you one, and I'm sure they'd put it in for you if you mailed it to em. If you don want to be without it for a few days, im sure they'd give you advice on how to do it without messing up.

edit: doesn't show the 90% on myth's config page. They may be out. But they have the 72% matte one

Maybe your reseller could do this for you. That way it would still be under warranty.

I did in fact chat with Xotic PC about this but i'm not too satisfied with my option there. I'd have to mail it in, paying for shipping both ways, a $50 service fee, then $200 for the screen. Might end up costing like $350.

Paying $150 and installing it myself or taking it to a local shop to have it done is a lot more appealing than having to pay shipping both ways and waiting. I am seriously displeased with the default screen, sucks i have to jump through a bunch of hoops now to be satisfied with this laptop.

I agree...but would that void your warranty? I'd rather keep the warranty intact and pay $350 rather than saving $200....

He'd just lose the coverage on the screen I'd assume. But if you buy an aftermarket one, you'll still have the old one to hold onto in case somethin happens. Or you could even just swap the old screen back in for warranty purposes if you need to

Yea i asked Xotic, i would just lose coverage on the screen, but honestly, if i had to pay for Xotic fixing the screen i'd have to mail it in anyways and just get the crappy default screen replaced. So i wouldnt be losing out on much.

I started this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...sembly-display-clevo-p170hm-sager-np8170.html becouse I had that some problem decayedmatter. I also had weak stock screen LG Display LP173WF1-TLC1 and I replaced it myself to AU Optronics B173HW01 V.5. If read you these thread you will know that replacing screen is piece of cake. And any reseller if they don't need to do with you screen they will don't put any warranty labels. I opened cover than replaced screen and I still keeping LP173WF1-TLC1 if I will had a need to return my notebook to my reseller.

I was going to buy that same screen, but in the end I decided that paying Xotic the extra $60 for the installation was mildly worth it. I just wasn't in the mood to preform surgery on a brand new notebook.
