guy said it's 1gb GDDR5. As for the memory, we don't know if it's 512 or 1gb because there could be memory modules on the underside of the card as well (like my 3870 cards). I'm trying to get more info as to where he got these well as proof of the specs. He said he's going to run some benchmarks and such once he gets his hard drive.

Yes..surely it has memory on back like the guy said...not a very good idea in my opinion however! (heat on the rear is less dissipated..)
He will benchmark that HUGE video card with a humble system so I don't think it will be useful..
Goood thing is that it didn't need a system update!

Maybe the reason why we don't see 4870 with gddr5 is that Qimonda doesn't work anymore....
or maybe ATi is planning to place the 4890 chip underclocked on MR4870..

We'll see, but from further inspection, it looks more like the GDDR3 version in that flickr page.

As far as the memory on the bottom goes, I don't think it'll be a major issue. It seems to be how ATi positions their memory banks. The desktop 4850 and 4870 has the same memory layout.

GPU-Z works crossing a database with catching frequencies so it actually could be GDDR5...at least it is the 1024mb version wich is unreleased..

You might be right, though the GPU-Z version they use was post GDDR5 fix. But then again, this was before they fixed support for ATi mobility cards.

ATi said today that Hynix and Samsung have shipped their GDDR5 memory chips demostrating that Qimonda is not the only one furniture...
maybe soon we'll see the true 4870.,..
