Ha good luck with Sager getting back to you, especially with a real response. Whatever you do, keep in mind that the vBIOS for these cards must be SLi enabled. If you buy a non-sli card, you'll have to take the risk of flashing it with the vBIOS from somebody who is running SLi already. At least from my research.

Not impossible, but seems improbable at this point. I'm also in the same boat, can't find a second 8800m gtx to upgrade. Pretty much given up now and gonna list my system for sale in the next few days. Tired of the bs that surrounds these mobile graphics cards. They don't want to sell the 8800m gtx because its now called a 9800m gt, but they won't re flash it so I can use a 9800m gt for sli with a 8800m gtx.
Powernotebooks is a sager reseller, so they won't have a 8800m gtx either. Waiting for a response back from killernotebooks and rjtech, but nothing so far. If I can't find one, I'll just sell the laptop and go back to desktops.

So i need to get a card that SLI ready?
How can i check if my current 8800 is SLI ready? I doubt it is.
So i would need 2 new 8800 cards if mine is not SLI ready
Should i just upgrade my cards to the 9800?

bwhxeon, maybe you can ask Excal27 for the vbios since he said that EC was gonna send him a special bios to flash 8800m gtx -> 9800m gt?

single 8800m gtx = not SLI ready
dual 8800m gtx = SLI ready.

not really the point nirvana, I shouldn't have to do that in the first place, several post have been made about people taking apart the 9800m gt and it has a 8800m gtx sticker on it....if its the same card there shouldn't be any reason they wouldn't work in sli, but they don't unless you do a bios flash.

assuming you find a second 8800m gtx from a "reseller" it should include the bios flash needed to run the system in sli.

I'm at the point where its not worth it, thinking about pushing forward with my mobile desktop system, couple more days and I'll be finished with my heatsink designs.

It seems pretty clear that you should sell your card to deacon and buy a set of 9800s (or 9800gtx's) :D

Not as dangerous though having two cards ;) with both installed, you'll just need to specify which card to flash if the vBIOS goes bad.

so i could buy a 9800 gtx and flash it. but that would defeat the purpose. If i do that i should just upgrade both to the 9800?

No you cannot add a 9800M GTX. They are far too different. You MIGHT be able to flash the 9800M GT onto a 8800M GTX card and make it work, but no guarantees. I have yet to see it done.

You could always sell your 8800M GTX and get 2 9800M GTX for the ultimate performance. If you want to sell your kidneys , that is.

I actually haven't seen anything higher than 8600M GTs sold anywhere I've checked for MXM cards, unfortunately. They might not be released to hardware suppliers/etc and/or the only vendors that deal in notebook MXM cards purchase overstocks or cards that have been replaced by manufacturers and are no longer used in many place. So.... you will likely have to wait for a place like mxm-upgrade.com (one of the few results I found, didn't check legitimacy) to carry them. Contacting the place where you bought your 9262 or another large reseller, and/or Sager would be your best bet for 9800M GTs at the moment, I'd say.

And SLI cables aren't needed, right? They just increase performance?

Probably because they don't handle any Sager parts and/or are not authorized to do so - just ship systems through their facility. Since Sager puts the systems together, it makes sense that only they'd have access to extra parts. I guess. Sounds like Sager has extra parts though!

Make sure Sager understands you're looking for an SLI upgrade KIT, as it appears you are are. This would include the card, the heat sink, the fan, the bridge cable, instructions, and a DVD with a bios and a vbios update. This is the kit that Sager shipped to many of us, so they should be able to put one together for you.

I have to agree with Tarentum. Your best bet might be to sell the 8800M GTX and get 2x 9800M GT's if you can. It would save you money and you would have pretty much exactly the same performance of 2x 8800M GTX's.

I'm sure you wouldn't have too much of a problem selling the 8800M GTX on eBay or something. I'm not 100% sure about this but it "could" be as simple as flashing your system BIOS and throwing in 2x SLi enabled 9800M GT's. You might want to talk to Sager and find out if this is an option.

IT is ok I already purchased it. I am not bragging but that amount is not bad for me. And in the email he said this "Will include a instruction for the video card installation and a update BIOS with new video driver cd for SLI setting"

I asked him what you posted wobble about the heat sink etc...

That's crazy, I bought mine back in march for 745 + shipping, it's hard to believe that they price hasn't gone down with the newer 9800s out, I would think they would drop the price just to get rid of the inventory.

I'm not sure how much a 9800 GT card is going for, so this may not be cost efficient, but since you need an 8800M you could always try and find someone who has one in a non-SLI clevo (e.g. an np5790-3) and see if you could buy a 9800 and trade it with them, since as I understand it they are basically the same card. It might not be worth the trouble/cost, but heck, it can't hurt to investigate it.

    For 9800 GTX/512M is $525 each card.
    For 9800 GTX/ 1GB is $845 each card.
If you like to change to 9800 Video card then need sent back the unit because the motherboard need modify in order to use the 9800 video card

he did not give me a price for the GT only the GTX

The price it would cost for me to ship this back to the states would not be worth it to me. it would cost me more than just buying one new card
