O_O' I don't recall there being a 512mb 9800m gtx I think he meant a 9800m gt. Also pretty sure the part about them needed the unit to do the update is a load of BS. The 9800m gt is the same as the 8800m gtx.

Sounds reasonable, and less risky than shipping a notebook.

I hope you change your mind after you've slept on it! :)

Yeah it sounds like a load of BS to me as well, I'm quite sure the mobo mod is nothing but an updated BIOS which he could install himself.

It's also the first I've heard about there even being a mod to use the 9800m cards.

I'm sure the prices are correct, but the 512mb 9800m gtx thats $525 is actually a 9800m gt.

I am unsure what to do here. If upgrading to the 9800m GT is just a bios update for the MOBO i can do that myself. But if not then i do not want to send my laptop overseas to the states to get upgraded. I have to pay for shipping here and back and that is around 200+ USD.
To send a 5lb NAS server out here cost me 200USD

If anything i rather jsut ship videos cards around and do the work myself.

on the 5793 / 570ru the 9800gt works fine with bios 1.00.08 and up as verified by a friend of mine who swapped his 8800 gtx out with a 9800gt from another system to test it. no mobo upgrade was needed so them telling you you have to send it in is bs... it works 100% so i see NO REASON at all it would not work in the 9262 as well there is 0 difference between them as long as you have the newest bios and drivers

Hmm thanks for that piece of information. I asked the sager rep about that and will get a reply tonight. I will post the answer when i get it.

I would like to do it myself. then all i am paying for is shipping for cards and not a whole laptop.

lol sager will tell you that they have to do the upgrade for it to work. trust me been there before with them about that on my 570ru i had. they insisted the 8800 would not work since i had the 8700 to start with. it worked just fine and i called to tell them that and they told me it was impossible for it to work right... i posted a video and sent them the link via email and wouldn't you know i never heard back about it after that...

but yeah i know the 9800gt works in the 570ru i do not see any reason for it not to work in the 9262 we opened one of the 9800gt cards up and stripped the heatsink off and it actually says 8800gtx on the sticker on the card but shows that it is a 570TU IN FACT on the other sticker and shows 9800gt in gpuz ...

The norwegian reseller Multicom sells 8800M GTX to the M860, and they really want to get rid of the cards it seems.

Ok instead of upgrading to the 2x 9800 GT cards. finding a buyer for mine then do the shipping packaging etc.. I decided to order the other 8800m GTX card. Also since i do not feel like paying 800+ for the single GTX card i went back to my original idea of getting the single card. This should last me for awhile

I'm pretty sure it does. If you bought an 'sli upgrade kit' you should get a cd with the latest vbios on it, if not here is the latest one direct from clevo: 62.92.34.00.08
