So I got a new system, and I am thinking of sometime soon increasing the RAM (Because who doesnt want to make it better and spend more money.... started out looking for a 1k budget laptop, like most things I do in life bumped up the price and the bells and whistles to make it more fun.

But when I ordered it it came with 1 8GB DDR3 1600MHz dual channel memory stick. I am assuming they installed it under the keyboard, but if I add another 8gb stick, would it be best to pop the keyboard and put it there to be side by side, or put it in one of the slots under the baseplate.

Also, what source/type of RAM is recommended- any of the brands significantly better- I like my gaming and some photo editing, but I am not a super user that clocks everything to the milisecond trying to squeeze everything out of a system. Just figuring out what type and site I should start stalking and looking for good deals.

    Thanks!

    Matt

i got 16gb ram in my 2 year old clevo and it was in the base and not the slots under the keyboard. easiest thing to check first is remove the base and see if the ram is there.
if it is check the make and buy equvalent as im not sure if mixing ram could cause problems.

Any type that matches the cl11 1.3v 1600mhz rating should he fine. You can pair it with the opposite channel on the under side even if the other stick is below the keyboard.

Once you've checked the type of RAM that is pre installed you can start the search by looking for the exact same model.

Exactly this. You can mix brands, but it's better practice to keep all of your modules identical to one another. If you're replacing the existing modules for any reason, you can go with whatever is compatible with your CPU's memory controller (typically DDR3 @ 1600).

So I can do that, figure out exact type and get same- however is there a best or most efficient slot to install it (best to be side by side with inital if under keyboard, or if not better channel a/b on underside.

The one next to it will be the best place to install, the 1x8GB typically is under the keyboard.
