Since the options in my country are all off right now due to their arrogance and stupidity, im considering buying the 9800m Gt and mount it myself. I was thinking of buying from Eurocom....what do you guys think?
-
a guy here on NBR is selling two 8800m-gtx:

seeing how 9800m-gt = 8800m-gtx, you might want to get in contact with him. -
If you already know that the performance difference between the GTS and the GT doesn't really worth the price difference, Eurocom is a good choice, especially with the Canadian currency being weak these days.
-
exactly, i was thinking of eurocom because of that, regarding the gts, if i bought it here in Portugal it would still be more expensive than buying the Gt on Eurocom....

Hi Maxrunner.
I believe the upgrade department at Eurocom is currently on vacation until January 6 so I think you may have to wait a bit until after New Years to grab a GT from them. Anyway, I requested a price quote from Eurocom about a week ago for the 9800M GT. They are willing to sell the 9800M GT with the M860TU heatsink for $513 USD. In my opinion, $513 plus shipping to upgrade a GTS to a GT is very hard to justify, especially since the GT has slowly inflated in price after Nvidia discontinued it and the demand for the remaining cards is still strong.
Another option you may want to consider is to wait for the new (restickered) Nvidia GTX170M. Sources claim it to be marginally faster, if not identical, to the current 9800M GT.
Nevertheless, the best deal here resides in the link that whizzo posted. $350 for an 8800M GTX is a very good deal.
Merry Christmas, Maxrunner. -
Hi! well the thing is my 9600m Gs is very slow, and i would like to upgrade to a better card, here in Portugal where i bought my clevo m860tu they're asking for 600€ for a 9800m Gt, which is ridiculous high and they even think its cheap and the seller gives the feeling that he thinks im lucky to even get that price and when i talk about going to buy out of Portugal he gets somehow grudged or angry for even talking about it. Im tired of them....so 354€ for the 9800m Gt from Eurocom is almost half of the price they told me here.
Edit: The prices they had were in CAN dollars.....you should check it again. -

Ah, forgive me. I was under the assumption that your M860TU bore the 9800M GTS. Anyway, Eurocom's price for the 9800M GT with the M860TU heatsink is $580 CAN.

the 9600m gs...isn't this card attached to the motherboard?
-
It uses the mxm-II type, so why would it be attached to the motherboard????
Anyway, i think ill buy from eurocom......by the way does anyone has experience in disassembling the laptop?
I already have the service manual and it doesnt seem to be hard, at least not more than disassembling a desktop. The question i have is once i remove the dissipator will i have to remove the thermic paste and put new one???i suppose i do....still i would like to hear from someone who actually has changed their card. -
Which in Euros is 349.....much cheaper than buying the Gts here. -
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_9600m_gs_us.html
looks pretty attached to the motherboard to me..although i could be wrong.
and i have disassembled and reassembled about 30 different types of laptops...and hopefully it's nothing like the dv9700 series...which had to be taken completely apart just to change a cpu. now the gateway was just remove the cover and the cpu was right there. the dc900 series is the same with an easy to switch gpu/cpu. the xps is also pretty easy to change the gpu/ cpu. pretty easy with most build able lappy's though. -
if you look at the assembly manual for the clevo m860tu you'll see it doesnt look too hard, the problem is that the heatsink of the vga is attached to the cpu too so you have to remove "both" to change the graphic card and put it again.
I was just searching for a revision of the service manual that matches my laptop, i dont know if the heatsink can be removed with the fan mounted...... -
we sure can try. i would rather be wrong and you get your upgrade!
did it look like this in there?

here it is, the question is the fan, do i remove it or not.....hummmmm -
that fan is only 3 screws. so if you have to remove it then it's cool to do so. just let it sit to the side. and life the heat sink straight out. it looks to be like 8 screws. make sure you have the correct screw driver for the job! this is a mandatory thing. if you strip one of them, then it's going to be a problem.
-
Actually its the screws under that matters, those are four. I already tested and removed them. So all its well, and when put it all back, was scared that when i turned it on the laptop was making some strange behaviour when it entered the windows, like it was full of things to do and even the mouse was stattering....i rebooted and all seems well now....but the main thing is that the vga seems swappable right?....
-
yes. looks to be very swappable! and your system came with a 9600m gs at that? "well we learn something knew every day" judging by the connector it looks like it would run a 8800m gtx or maybe even a 9800m gts/gt/gtx just not sure of the heat shield and how well it would work on the newer version of the older cards. (rebranding 8800m gtx/9800m gt)

Well this model of clevo m860tu works with all except 9800m Gtx apparentely....so i was thiniking of eurocom to get a Gt.....dont know yet for sure.
Edit: my other doubt is to remove the vga after i take all screws and removing the heatsink, you have to lift and only then remove am i right? -
how much is that in american money?
also, im sure you have seen one of our members selling two 8800m gtx's as well. this would be cheaper but virtually the same performance as the 9800m gt but with out the over head cost...(in my case..i would still buy the 9800m gt..im just silly like that..LOL)
or you can try to wait about a month to see if they comeout with the new revised 9800m gt @ 1 gig vram. (speculation of course)
edit: yes..once you take out the two tiny screws hold it to the motherboard it will just lift up and out. -
Yes, my fear is that the 8800m Gtx overheats too much.....
-
nope, it doesn't over heat like that... it's just like anything else...keep it clean and happy and you will in turn love it's performance..
but at the same time...each user has his or her own security threshold on temps... -
Well the 8800m Gtx is more expensive than the 9800m Gt at Eurocom....so ill decide tomorrow when eurocom will give the refreshed prices....then i might decide, im also still waiting for an answer from the user which was selling its graphic cards.
-
sounds good max. hope it all works out. and stay reading up on the difference between the 3. you still have 24 hours left of research time..
-
Whats your take on the whole 8800m Gtx vs 9800m Gt vs 9800m Gts??
-
real world take...
9800m gts card is good in a 1200-1500 dollar system
8800m gtx/9800m gt is better when spending more.
96sp/88/98 vs 64sp 9800m gts, but with the added 512 megs of ram for high texture games has helped the gts a bit, but still not greater than the 88/98.
i have ran test on the 9800m gt/gts and the 9800m/8800m gtx beat out the gts by a great deal. -
So the 8800m Gtx or the 9800m Gt..... -
most people say it's the same card. so if you can pay less for the 8800 then by all means..grab it.
-
Well only if i bought it to the other person.....but lets see..... -
they're are some pictures of both cards around here somewhere. and they both say.. 8800m gtx on the chip itself
-
-
im about 99.9 percent sure they are compatible..
-
Ok!
, im just waiting for the user to reply my message.
-
Well the guys at Eurocom are charging 590 dollars for the Gt, but if Ogg still has one of the vgas i might get one from him.....
-
-
-
I got a Eurocom. Have been happy. They even did a free service on my M860TU because I thought my temps were high.
-
Where to buy 9800m Gt, is eurocom a good place?
