mySN speaks English (they told me they wanna translate their site into English this winter), they have a competend and quick support and provide you with regular bios updates. For example, if you have any hardware issue and know about laptops, they will send you the new component so you can replace it yourself and you just send the broken component back afterwards. This way you don't have to send in the whole laptop which is especially useful if you reside outside of Germany. Should their price be higher than other resellers they will at least tell you why this is - they also have special discounts every month and student prices. However, I won't deny that I'm biased in this regard, I bought all my laptops from them.

to be honest quickest is not always best especially when it comes to hand built to your spec laptops. if it only takes 5 days i wonder how much testing if any is done on it.

kobalt are one of the cheapest in the uk but im not sure of comparison when prices are changed into euro.

    kobalt w860cu cost from £1,270 Inc VAT = 1 528 euros , the w870 is 1700 euros

mysn cost about 1300 euros for the same config and 1450

deviltech costs 1150 and maybe is the best and 1350

    notebookguru costs 1300 and 1500

    you know others?
    thanks

I learn that when comparing different stores it is good too check exactly the same configuration+ service. Some stores give smaller prices for the basic configuration but with significantly lower configuration.

One.de's reputation in Germany is as low as Eurocom's reputation on this forum and probably for better reasons. So I would not recommend them. Apparently in Germany there are only two well known resellers, mySN and Deviltech. But if your just looking for the best price, I'd just buy the barebone and all the components in the US. Thing is you need somebody to bring it over or you need to go there yourself, otherwise customs duty will kill that plan. But you get the laptop at an ridiculously low price.

In the US? RJTech, other parts on ebay or wherever its the cheapest. But yeah, problem is customs. It only makes sense if you go their yourself or have a friend bring it over by plane in which case they will most likely not check for the laptop unless you bring all the packaging.

Otherwise just buy in Europe, apparently the best Clevo resellers in Europe are those in the UK or in Germany. Of those two choices Germany makes more sense, since it's closer and has the Euro. In Germany - like I said - there are only two resellers that seem established, mySN and Deviltech. Of those I would recommend mySN since they've dealt with barebone laptops long before their competitors and therefore have more experience and knowledge about Clevo laptops (it's also the only [German] Clevo reseller that shows up on exhibitions like CeBIT or gamescom), however, that also seems to increase their pricing. Sadly in Europe price matching is not customary...

In the alternative if you have a lot of time... do some research into Italian business law, maybe they have some icentives for creating small companies, you could set up a company, contact Clevo, buy the laptop with industrial discount, then file for insolvency or just keep it, as it seems like there is no decent Italian Clevo reseller around. ;-)

Kobalt Computers (UK) just put on their website Clevo X8100 XFire and the price difference is huge- 500 sterling less than with the nvidia SLI option. Unfortunately it is still more than the what the german resellers offer due to the high exchange rate, but they give an European collect and return warranty- german ones give "bring in" outside germany.
Overall I am highly disappointed from the level of customer service from most of the resellers- most of them did not return emails with specific configuration questions- cybersystem did return questions only after I placed an actual order, in a phone call mysn suggest me to send everything in an email to which they never responded, deviltech- no response at all...
only hawkforce have a live chat option, so they were the only ones that answered my questions.
I would suggest to ask for a price match- although it is not advertised I am sure most of them would consider it.
Also mysn have some exhibition units that are about 70-90 euros cheaper than brand new, but still carry full warranty.

Hi Guys, this isn't a "buy from Kobalt" rant - just an explination of the ex rates and config conparisons.

    pasoleatis has a good point:

If you spec up all the laptops on the different sites listed above then there's quite a big difference in the prices. For example our 860cu starts at £1,270 inc VAT which at the international $1,000,000 ex rate (currently 1.201) does equal €1.525. However if you to purchase anything in a different currency you're not going to get the same ex rate. For example if you pay via bank transfer then today you won't get an ex rate of 2.01 because the bank will take a comission and won't give you the exact rate. This works both ways and is something that you should bear in mind when dealing in any currency transactions. Best thing to do is contact your bank to see what exchange rates they are offering.

If you spec up the mysn model to the same as our starting spec then the cost is actually €1.462, not €1,300 because you need to upgrade the CPU, WIFI, HDD and add Windows.

This is just some general advice, of course price is only one factor in choosing a company, varying ex rates just complicate this.

The only european clevo i know of are kobalt UK; mysn, cizmo, deviltech DE, and eurocom goldmax in czech republick they are a branch of eurocom.

    You just make similar configs and take a look at the price. Convert the currency with google by writing: 1500 pounds in eur;

And you should have a comparable result.
You should also take in consideration shipping and further vat (For instance the VAT in my country recently rose to 24% and mysn prices include 19%VaT, thus, theoreticaly at a price of 2000 eur including 19% VAT it should further cost me (2000/119)*5=84eur, that meaning a further increase in price of 4.1%.

    Baseline is prices are similar.

I've compared all European sellers for a couple of configurations (NVidia with i5-540 or i7-740) and the cheapest are:

    http://www.cyber-system.de/

    mySN.de

    CIZMO

I doubt these can be beat, but models with ATI cards... I don't know.

With regards to VAT, it is worth noting that after looking in to this it appears that if you buy from a VAT registered company somewhere in the EU (not necessarily Europe, oh-hi Switzerland I'm looking at you) for import into the UK (possibly other EU countries too, this would make sense) then you don't pay further VAT or import duties. I Am No A Lawyer, but this is my understanding after several hours of trying to find out how much my government would gouge me for if I wanted to buy a laptop from MYSN.

That is correct, there is a thing called European Union that forbids states to charge VAT or import duties on products bought in another member state. However, delivery fees and exchange rates are the problem if you buy stuff from a country outside the UK, however, it can pay off.

I think this works only for company to company transactions. If you buy as a consumer you will have to pay the VAT difference when the item gets to you. You can search this up on EUs website : General overview - European commission

Who will request the payment from you? When I bought my laptop from Germany, I didn't have to pay anything extra. Here VAT is 20%. Recently I also bought something from USA for 80$, and also didn't have to pay VAT or import duties (it got stamped as exempted for some reason).

Various duties is only charged on items being imported if their individual value is over a certain allowance, I believe.

Useful link from the HM Revenue and Customs website.

    The important bits are:

"Customs duty is a tax charged on importation of goods produced outside the European Union (EU). You won’t have to pay Customs Duty if you’re travelling from the EU, or buying, ordering or sending goods to the UK from the EU for your own use. "

"If you’re posting goods to the UK, or ordering them from a non-EU country, you only have to pay Customs Duty above a certain value."

"For goods brought in or sent to the UK from the EU there’s no extra VAT to pay "

Edit: Just wanted to say the reason that I've been researching this is because I'm looking into maybe buying a laptop from MYSN. Should I start a new thread or is this one appropriate enough to ask what experiences people have had with them?

The shipping company(DHL, FEDEX, etc.) will request it...and on top of the VAT they will put a few extra fees- brokerage, delivery, etc., so be careful. I would call all of them and ask their customs department exactly how much it will be and then advise your seller which shipper to use. Safest bet from US to EU will be to use government post office as there are less likely to have those extra fees or maybe even overlooked things ;) . You can ask your seller to mark the package as "warranty repair" an MAYBE pay nothing.
(Last option is illegal an not many would do it, PM me if you want to know which seller promised me something like this)
Unfortunately with the exchange rate and possible VAT+shipping+fees it is kinda pointless to buy a laptop from the US, another thing is warranty- US Sager doesn't have Global warranty.
And in the case of X8100 if you shop smart it is actually cheaper to buy in Europe.

If you live in the UK and buy something from the EU for personal use(like a laptop) you not gonna pay anything extra. And again- you'll get the 2 year warranty, but it will be "bring-in". Kobalt's prices are comparable to MYSN's, maybe a bit more expensive than some other German resellers like DevilTech or Cybersystem, but it all depends on configuration- some have a cheap base price, but charge high for upgrades, others have a high base, but usually you don't have to add anything.
On the last question-of all I read here and in some German forums MYSN are probably the most experienced German reseller. I personally won't order from them as my pre-sale contact with them was very poor.

I am looking for a 15" laptop with NVidia graphics, 8GB memory and i5-540 or i7-740. With this configuration, mysn, mycizmo and cyber-systems have the cheapest prices. As kalawera said it all depends on configuration. Some charge more for RAM, SSD drive etc. Next thing would be to look for warranty length and other sale conditions.

This could be generalized to: live in EU, buy from EU for personal use, no extra costs. Some online shops change the VAT value to your country automatically, which really sucks if the goverment is greedy (23..25%) - otherwise you win the difference :D

I'm planning to buy a Clevo laptop also. My main choice as of now is the cyber-system qi18 or mysn P800. however, i've got few concerns.
    1. the quality of the build
    2. the quality of the display
    3. overheating issues
    4. price matching.
Anyone had to deal with the Qi18 that includes xfire 5870?
The mySN reseller seems good, however, cyber-system guys offer almost the same build for a slightly lower price. Do you think those guys at mySN or Deviltech will be willing to match the price?

Final decision to make (laptop from Germany to Malta): mySN or Hawkforce...any recommendations?
    * Hawkforce.de
    Advantages:
    1. Very good communication
    2. Very helpful, fast replies
    3. Good price
    4. Good reviews on German forums
    5. Discount was offered
    Disadvantages:
    1. The guy does not have a EU VAT number...a bit fishy...He cannot sell the laptop for the [excl. VAT] price
    2. I'm concerned about my laptop's future support if something has to go wrong
    3. Expensive shipping to Malta
    * mySN.de
    Advantages:
    1. International support (claimed by some reviewers online) is of high level
    2. Good English
    3. Accepts EU VAT
    4. Cheap shipping (55 euro)
    Disadvantages:
    1. Quite expensive compared to other resellers (I am considering them since they can sell the laptop without the VAT, thus it balances the price in the end of the day, but the fact is..it is still expensive)
    2. Refused to give a decent discount (I have to chose either 3% student discount or [excl. VAT] price, which I find unfair)
    3. Some reviews suggest that pre-checks on faulty hardware are not done correctly, meaning that laptops come with partially faulty items, i.e. dead pixels, however, they replace it with no problems (still...a waste of time and cash, which could have been easily avoided done correctly)
    ---
Tomorrow I'm going to make my final decision from which e-store I'm going to buy my W870CU

actually hawkforce and deviltech are the cheapest, mySN i think is the most expensive out of all German resellers. unfortunately, i excluded deviltech, since the email correspondence with them is horrible. if they cannot reply fast enough to my business queries (takes them 4-5 days, while hawkforce answers within hours, mySN within 1-2 (sometimes more) days), how can i trust them they would solve my potential laptop problem if something had to happen...

P.S. emailed both parties now..waiting for their move, if they reply fast enough and agree, one of them will get from me almost 1.3K euro

yeah, sucks that Hawkforce is one guy company and no VAT :( otherwise, i'd buy from him in no time.
Knowing how fast hawkforce replies, mySN is a bit annoying...it takes time to answer...
One man company vs Many employees....

As of now these two are in my consideration. Deviltech and One.de are out...horrible email correspondence with them

mysn offers a special discount of around 6% for some notebooks in november.

i ordered one too (w870cu) without the discount. fast shipping! best reseller for my configuration wishes.

it comes with 1 subpixel (blue) error. i use a lot of consoles with black background daily, so i was not happy!

one call with the tech support -> return the old one -> do a reorder -> get new offered discount and be happy!

i will looking forward and give a feedback about the change with mysn then its completed.

PS: the fact is, mysn sells notebooks with error class 2 for panels and this is not a secret. you can read it on their FAQ with a descrption of the different error classes. if you dont want the risk, you can order a 0 pixel error option with 6 months warranty.

People who are buying from mySN be prepared with VAT problems :/ those guys have my VAT number, scan of my certificate...and still problems. I HAD to verify it online on the EU web-site and send them a new screenshot...God! Never had such problems with Thomann and Farnell. Are the employees trying to give me a hard time or what? I'm already late with my project and cannot continue without a new laptop :/ Hate it. So, just take this into consideration, mySN might give you hard times. Overclockers.co.uk, Farnell, Thomann...it took them 10 mins to verify my details...mySN few weeks :/

It should take them one day to check your VAT number. And they will need a copy of your VAT certificate, most companies require it for intra-EU transactions.

They had my VAT number, address and certificate for almost 2 weeks. This evening I was told the laptop is shipped via DHL...Dunno...Till I see the tracking number, I would doubt it.

After my last W860CU I don't know if I would suggest importing from the USA since that cheap Laptop doesn't look so cheap after its been returned for repair twice since you have to pay all the shipping costs

    :(
