Hey guys,
This is my first post on this forum, So please bear with me(or correct me) if i make any mistakes.
I am planning to buy a powerful 15 inch gaming laptop and has decided to get a Clevo P150EM.There are a lot of sellers for this. I am confused as to where to buy this. XOTICPC seems like giving a good deal. Any suggestions please?
I would also appreciate if someone can give me advice on the customization. I have decided to get GTX 680M for GFX, But still uncertain about processor, display (matte or glossy) and SSD, HDD options.
Please help!!
thanks in advance!!![]()

Basically.
What are you preferences? Are you going to buy this for certain games?
I would contact the different resellers either over PM here (you'll need 5 posts) or email or telephone. The thing is that you need to post some information or preferences for us to help you out better.
How much storage does your games currently take up? DO you use a lot of space?
Do you like having glare on the screen? Sun shining reflections? Will you be sitting inside with controlled lighting? The matte gives one the option to sit in more lighten up environments versus the glossy which is slightly clearer but is deadly once you are in a class room or such.
Assuming you are a average user, I would recommend a 120/128GB SSD w/e you find the best, Samsung, Intel, Crucial and so on. And probably a storage drive instead of the ODD (optical disk drive) unless you like using discs (which I don't).
Do ask if you have more to find information about or if you want to add something, I'm sure others will help you out too. -
I would really recommend the stock i7-3610QM, it is more than enough for the average user, however, unless you need ridiculously heavy multitasking or CPU-consuming programs, you may be interested in a higher processor.
The 680M is a solid choice. I wish I could upgrade to it, but I'm too poor :c
display depends on where you'll be most of the day. If you need to work with accurate colors, get a higher gamut screen. I would recommend matte, since the colors are still rich, and you never know when you might find yourself outside in the sun. -
jaug1337,
Thanks for the quick response.
I will be using it for heavy gaming, mostly current gen games( BF3, Skyrim, Batman AC..etc). So, each game installation will be approx 5-10 GB in size.
I am thinking of going for a SSD( uncertain about the size) for the OS and programs and game installations( for better performance) and i will use HDD(500 GB hybrid or 750 plain?) for all my files(movies, music, pics.. etc)
when it comes to CPU, these are the options i have :
i7-3610QM 2.3GHz - 3.3GHz (Default)
i7-3720QM 2.6GHz - 3.6GHz (+ 160$)
i7-3820QM 2.7GHz - 3.7GHz ( + 350$)
i7-3920XM Extreme Edition 2.9GHz - 3.8GHz (+870$)
Do you think i should upgrade my CPU or the default is good enough?
and the GPU upgrade to GTX 680M is 445$. is it worth? by default, it comes with GTX 670M.
Finally, Display i think i will go with matte. i have had obnoxious glare problems with my current Dell XPS 15 even in my home. But, i am not sure if i should go for 95% gamut upgrade( + 95$)
Any suggestions appreciated... -
If money is not a problem.
I would personally go with a matte laptop. Don't upgrade for the gamut.. not worthy for just gaming (if you ask me, slight waste of money unless you've got money to throw out here and there)
Then go with the i7-3610QM simply because it meets all demands, unless you actually feel you need the extra power the 3720QM delivers (which is only necessary in some games.. but isn't that significant anyways)
The 680M is definitely worth the upgrade, the 670M is a rebranded 570M so.. yeah, go with the 680M.
Now if money is tight, I would go with a 120GB SSD and a PLAIN 750GB drive for all files. If you feel you want to add more to the SSD like 240/256 (my personal preference) and then buy a storage HDD later on I would do that. You can always change your mind.
Basically everything is fully customizatable and if you feel you want to do something out of the ordinary with your build do that, but make sure to ask us first (just to guide you better through the whole process in-case you purchase or choose something you dont want)
Best regards ^^ and all the luck -
Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
Xotic/LPC-Digital are Sager resellers (they send order to Sager, Sager ships to you unless you order something Xotic specific)
Malibal/Mythlogic/Sager/etc are Clevo system builders (they buy chassis from Clevo and build the laptop with their own parts)
I'd go with Matte for sure, I went for the 92% Gamut screen (because I came from a Vaio Z11 w/ a nice screen and use an IPS panel at home) but I heard the stock screen is better than most run-of-the-mill screens out there, I'd go with the base CPU (you're going to see a GPU bottleneck before CPU anytime soon).
As for GPU, that's the major question...
The 670M will play BF3 at 1080p low w/ 60 frames (with a little OC), no driver issues so far (it is a rebranded 570M, so still fermi, not Kepler)
the 7970M is almost double the performance but you deal with crazy driver issues, but from a purely bang for buck, this is the BEST GPU to get currently
The 680M is the king of the hill, and you'd have to be one to afford the crazy price Nvidia wants, but with that you get the best single mobile GPU and some relatively stable drivers
If you don't mind the 7970's drawbacks and take a chance with the drivers, it's the best deal out there, and truth be told, I think with time AMD will fix their problems... hopefully.
I'd go for a 7970M myself though. -
Thanks everyone for valuable suggestions.
I think i will go for 680M. CPU: 3720QM or the base...still undecided. should i buy a 60 day dead pixel warranty?
jaug1337, i am not selecting a mSATA option, instead i am planning to select 512GB crucial M4 SSD. this means i will not get a HDD. base optical drive. is this a bad choice? you can see my full customization list below. please feel free to add comments.
Achusaysblessyou, so, what do you think is a better option, sager(xotic) or clevo(malibal,myth..). as of now i am think xotic. how is 95% gamut screen? worth the extra cost?
Here is my specs list from XOTIC. Total comes up to 2514$. Please feel free to add comments and suggestions:

For you mSATA vs SSD delima you have it configured correctly. When using a SSD as your primary drive you will actually lose speed when using a mSATA. They are great when you have a regular HDD but not with a SSD.

Xotic is nice.
And seems like a very pleasant configuration, and well 512GB M4 seems to do itgood luck mate!

Obviously I recommend what is in my sig, including LPC-Digital. I find XoticPC does their best to upsell you, which is their job, but I just don't feel less pressured when speaking with Larry @ LPC-Digital, I thought his replies were more genuine, but XoticPC support seems to be stellar.
I bought my system from LPC-Digital with this:
Sager NP150EM | i7-3610QM | 7970M @ 950/1375 | 95% NTSC Matte | 750 XT Hybrid | Intel 6235
I upgraded it easily:
120GB Mushkin Atlas mSATA (OS dedicated) | 16GB ADATA CL9 1600 @ 1.35v | Innovation Cooling Diamond 7 TIM | Foil tape/heatsink mod
HDD Solution?
I went with mSATA and 750GB Hybrid XT and kept my ODD drive. I would be very impressed if someone can tell the difference between SATA 2 and SATA 3 in everyday use. Not synthetic benchmarks.
This laptop is just a dream for upgrading and maintenance. And of course my favorite part is the 95% matte screen. Worth every penny. If there is one upgrade I recommend over all others, it's the 95% matte screen, it's the one thing I use/look at more than anything else on this machine, and love it. -
You'll feel the difference between SATA II and SATA III once you've got a SSD for both SATA editions and you've got Photoshop with 200 add-ons and modifications. The difference WILL be noticeable, but not something that is worthy taking too highly if you are a average user.
So yeah.. who cares anyways?
Where to buy Clevo P150EM/ Sager NP9150?
