So here is the thing. I really want a P170HM / Sager 8170. It appears to have everything I would need in a gaming laptop. The problem is that I am living in Europe and the prices here are insane. I have had a hard time finding the laptop I want (2720QM, Radeon HD6970, 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD) for less than 1900 Euro.

I have started considering buying from overseas, but the lack of warranty could be a dealbreaker for me.

So far I have found out that Eurocom ships (and also has a repair facility) in Germany, so I may buy from them. Also, a friend of mine recently bought from them and was very pleased. They might be a little on the expensive side, but it is still a lot cheaper than buying the same machine over here.

Any idea of any of the other big Sager dealers ship (and has a global warranty) to Europe? I have heard good things about XoticPC and PCTorque, but when I contacted them (only got a response from XoticPC) they told me I would have to pay from shipping back and forth in the event something was to happen to my computer :(

Any ideas what I should do?

    hi chris
you can find a full list of resellers HERE.the list needs updating but its better late than never.
what part of europe are you from. uk prices are a lot higher than america but of course the import duty, vat and sendback for repairs will certainly bump the price up a lot.
if you havnt done so yet also google search kobalt computers in the uk

    Thank you very much, MrDJ.

I had a look at Kobalt Computers, but I did not find anyone that had the 2720QM + HD6970 Combo I was looking for. I will do some more research by using the list you provided, but it looks like a lot of the dealers listed are not really serious anymore :(

i dont think you will find anywhere in the uk that has the 6970.
as soon as they are released it will be posted on the kobalt forum as there are quite a lot of interest when compared to the 485

    Hiya,

We will be offering the 6970 shortly, keep an eye on our page

The 1tb drives do not physically fit in the P170hm so they are being removed from our config pages as we were told they would fit, sadly this is not the case.

    Keep an eye out

    Pman

    Great information, thanks!

Can you define shortly? ;) I need a laptop by the end of April and time is one of the deciding factors for me.

Goldmax.cz is Eurocom reseller in Czech Republic and has anything that Eurocom has as well available for entire Europe. Prices lower than Eurocom but higher than Deviltech

You have a list here, with the exception of about two resellers that went bankrupt (XXODD & Inforlandia):

    Hey Chris,

I was looking for something similar (2720QM, Radeon HD6970, not quite so fussed about ram, and HDD), and I think the cheapest for that spec is probably from Deviltech in Germany.

One of my friends has ordered from them for shipping to the UK, it's apparently about £50 extra.

It'd be nice if one of the UK companies like Kobalt would match Deviltech's pricing, as I would much prefer to deal with a more local company.

    Cheers,

    drakioned

Edit: Oh, and DevilTech explicitly say their laptops have the Sandy Bridge problem fixed... maybe the other makers do too, but I think I trust them more for telling you the facts more visibly.

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, but Pman, would Kobalt consider price matching?

You should PM him or send them an email. Resellers are much more open to talk about price matching and rebates on a one on one basis than on an open forum ;)

I got my NP8170 from Kobalt and couldn't be happier. The money you might save from importing won't mean anything if you ever need to send it in for servicing and you will get charged import VAT.

Regarding the 1tb drives being too big, wouldn't one of those fit into a caddy installed into the DVD area?

I prefer having two drives and a DVD but some others may not mind.

If you spec up the same on Deviltech and Kobalt they work out the same, in fact the Kobalt G150 is about £20 cheaper than the Deviltech DTX. That's with a 460M, with the 6970M Kobalt is about £65 cheaper!!!!!

That doesn't include shipping so if you're ordering from the UK then it's going to work out much cheaper from Kobalt. If you are ordering from Germany then I'm sure Deviltech would be the more obvious choice, though mysn.de are a better company IMO.

On the OP's question of where to buy in Europe, there are two companies which I would definitely warn against. These are Hawkforce and Goldmax - reason being that they are both "Eurocom resellers". There are several reasons I'm saying this and it's not necessarily against those two companies per say.

Firstly, if they are reselling from Eurocom then there will be issues with the two mentioned companies ability to support the laptops they sell. This is because everything that goes wrong will have to go back to Canada at some point.

Secondly, ask why they are buying from Eurocom when there are lots of companies in Europe who are established. Moreso, ask why Eurocom are trying to sell their laptops through resellers in Europe, no one else does this outside their own continent.

Thirdly, Eurocom has a naughty habit of releasing news on new options far too early and as people on here have found out such as Tirenz HERE Eurocom are happy to cheat to say that they are "shipping first".

Hawkforce and Goldmax might be run by decent people but they have developed a bad relationship which brings nothing new or better than what already is available in Europe.

Do you know that Clevo has a servicing center in Europe? Then it would be stupid on their part to ship it to Canada for servicing and speculative of you to think so.

Maybe it is all about money and some profit.

For companies that buy via reseller they have to ship back to them first. So they would need to send the machine back to Eurocom.

The service centre will only deal with those who buy direct
