What is the best reseller for Sager laptop in Canada?
I dont want to pay huge duty fees ordering from USA... but I dont want to overpay my laptop neither...
So for Canadians, what is the best option?
-
Hi, there are no import duties or taxes when shipping a laptop to the Canada from the US. And so long as you avoid UPS Standard Shipping, there won't be any brokerage fees either - so you would only have to pay the cost of the laptop plus your local GST/PST/HST taxes and that's it.
Also, you can find a list of popular resellers here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-0-faq-reseller-info-read-before-posting.html - you should check warranty coverage, some offer local warranty service in Canada and some require you to ship your laptop back to the US for service. -
Thx for your fast answer.
Is malibal using UPS or USPS regarding shipping? -
Hi, we can ship UPS or USPS... USPS will be the cheapest option and it covers brokerage, however - it can sometimes take a lot longer than UPS Expedited or Express - which are considerably more expensive - however, with our NBR Shipping Discount, the difference isn't too much.

Sorry to hijack my own thread (?) but....
how do we get the NBR shipping discount? -

You do that by getting 5 posts, waiting overnight, and then PM'ing Malibal (or other resellers, if you wish) for details.

To clarify -- there are no duties on Sager computers, and no US taxes for Canadians --- but you do have to pay HST or GST/PST. This depends on how it's shipped and where it's shipped to and if the addressee has an existing UPS/FEDEX account, if it's shipped to a business address that may be attached to a UPS/FEDEX account, or to a private citizen at a residential address. This applies to brokerage as well -- it can be a shot in the dark. Customs is a wild card too.
Not to put you off buying from the US but it can be unpredictable cost wise -- you just need to be prepared. -
I live in Ontario and I got my laptop through USPS, although it took awhile (3 weeks) I was only charged HST when they delivered it, but on the CDN equivalent of the US price.
Check around the different resellers and see who you like the best.

For my review on the P170HM that I got from Malibal. -
There are no duty fees, just brokerage. It's all explained in the link in my sig. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask in here, PM or e-mail.

as long as you dont choose ups standard as you shipping method everything will be alright lol
with usps and ups expedit/express, you only have to pay hst(or gst/pst depending on which province you live). -
So... no matter where I buy from, I will have to pay federal + provincial tax (I'm from Quebec fwiw)?
I thought hat if I buy outside Quebec, I wont have to pay provincial tax... ? -
The Quebec Sales Tax is 8.5%. So you'll be charged that when you receive the computer.
This should apply to anything you buy no matter inside or outside Quebec. -

Reflex is pretty familiar with Canadian purchases, but if you have any other questions we always suggest contacting your local customs agency for more information

the tax system in canada is pretty retarded if you ask me. i got tax 60dollar "GST" on a 300 dollar used iphone 4 (from an indivdual not a business) and i had to decline it and waste 30bux on shipping. and sometimes when when i buy hardware i dont get taxed anything even when they are new........ -
I am from Canada, BC, I bought my Sager np8170 from XoticPC, although had some very minor issues with wire transfer due to some bank differences but got my laptop after a week after I paid. UPS charge me HST 12% of the total invoice .
Almost all of the reseller in the USA are A okay it's just the matter of preference, and also make sure to compare prices thoroughly including the shipping. -
Hi,
The Tax is biased on the location where the notebook is going. So even if you are from Quebec and you want too ship it to Toronto for example we will charge HST.
and thanks for the referral J.P+1 rep given
