Hey guys,
I have finally decided on getting a Sager 2090, but the only problem that I am having is where to buy it in canada?
So, anybody know any websites where you can order sager, compal, or asus in canada?
I have looked at agearnotebook.com, but I'm not sure if they ship to Canada, and the notebooks don't come with an operating system pre-installed.
Thanks.
-
www.Eurocom.com might be planning on carrying them.
But you can get it shipped to you by:
alright thanks, I was kind of hoping that there would be a vendor in canada, so that I don't need to pay extra fee's to get it across the border.
-
Eurocom is based in Canada.
but sadly, they are not carrying the IFL-90 yet. -
Well I'm from Canada and I ordered from XoticPC.com.. make sure you choose UPS EXPRESS!! with emphasis on express.. not ground!! or else you'll pay big fees for border crossing. Dude my 2090 arrived and I didn't even pay taxes/duties! I was so suprised!
-
Anyway great buy...just pray your laptop never has problems; Xotic requires international warranty shipping to be paid by the customer both ways -
$1640 CDN in total, which comes to (according to vista's gadget currency rate thinger lol...) $1561 US. hmm lets see what i got off the top of my head (2 lazy to check right now)
WSXGA+ with WinVista64 bit
UPS express shipping of course (definitely will save u money)
T7300 2.0Ghz C2D
2x1GB sodimms
100GB 7200RPM HDD
dvd burner, wireless a/g/n
AS5 compound
I think that's pretty much it that I can think of... my config was basically base model on XoticPC's Force 2090 Elite-V or whatever they called it. Pretty good deal if you ask me -
Wow, you must have been lucky... You didn't have to pay for canadian taxes??? amazing. I'll pm you, I need some more details of what you did.
-
I too am canadian (BC) and would be most desirous to know of how you avoided paying taxes and duties!
BTW, i emailed Eurocom and they said that they will be carrying it around september. Sadly, this is too late for me. -
RLM, i don't know what happened.. all I expected was to avoid brokerage fees by using UPS Express... but if you want to try, go with XoticPC and maybe your situation will turn out the same way!
-
I am interested to hear if there were any similar incidents
Also, if you order via UPS Express, can you be 100% certain there will be no duties charged? If so, why? -
I think this link helps explain a lot about the fees and taxes, good read: http://canadaonline.about.com/cs/customs/a/shopshipcanada.htm
-
Thanks for the article! Most interesting!
In the end, it'a almost a question of luck lol.... I'm surprised UPS did not at least charged taxes. I understand broker fees may be included in the shipping option, but taxes?
As for USPS/Canada post, my (non) scientific guess is that they're just too busy to check all the packages. They'll only pick the most pricey items (declared value) and charge taxes + 5$ on them. Usually, when I import from the US and the declared value is 75$ and up, i being ended charged with taxes + 5$. -
Approx how long will it take the Sager 2090 from XoticPC.com to ship to canada with UPS express
-
well mine shipped on the 31st and I got it on the 3rd... but i should've got it on the 2nd (nobody was home when they delivered it the first time)
-
o, also I'm 2 hours drive from winnipeg.. if you live in a major area like the peg, or toronto, or vancouver, etc.. you'd probably get it the same day it arrived at that area..
-
To Shamgar365:
Congratez on getting your laptop, do you like it so far?
Did you get charged by PST/GST upon arrival of laptop in winnipeg? -
no taxes! like i said it totally threw me off, i was definitely expecting at least GST. as for the machine itself - I love it! at first the driver/vista cd made the drive do this loud low rumbling that shook the whole table.. but it turns out that only happens on those two Sager provided cd/dvds.
Now I got mine installed with Vista which IMO is currently ruining my laptop lol.. I reallly want to install XP but keep AHCI enabled.. so far i'm not sure slipstreaming with SP2 really will help, because I have XP home with SP2 and it still needs SATA drivers and I don't know where to get them for this lappy. Also I tried installing XP on IDE mode, installing chipset drivers, and reenabling AHCI... got a BSoD. -
Anyone else have similar experiences as Shagmar?
-
well think about it, it doenst have to cross the border if it is express, most likely shipped on a plane, so it bypasses all of that nonesense you would usually have at the border, you would just get charged shipping
-
I did XoticPC, shipped and arrived SAME DAY to Canada, I swear.
I did UPS Express, and as far as I know, I wasn't hit with anything at the border (I didn't sign for it, and I haven't spoken with the person who did yet, but I assume they didn't pay anything).
US companies seem the best still, what with the high dollar and all.
Best of luck to you. -

There's one canadian dealer ( www.directpc.ca ) that's selling the 5790 and 9260 under their own branding. It's based in B.C so Canadians ordering will only get charged GST, no PST. Their prices seem to be better than Eurocom's.
Anyone know anything about them or dealt with them before? -
hey thanks, thats a good site, they dont have the 8700m gt for the 5790 though, hopefully soon
-
-
-
keep in mind that JPRT and I got hit with no PST OR GST
-
edit: nm, read the entire thread. Guess UPS Exp is the way to go -
I configured two identical 5790 machines with the exact same hardware/add-ons and I got the following prices:
Directpc: 2,369.64
Eurocom: 2,188.00
With Eurocom you can also opt out of some things that seem to be standard with Directpc, i.e. OS/Bluetooth/Wireless LAN. -
the eurocom website doesnt work for me, could you link me please, mayb i have the wrong one
-
you know what I think eurocom just dropped its prices on the 5790. It was definitely higher few days ago. 9760 is still the same tho ( about 150 more than directpc. on my config ) altho eurom has quads on theirs.
directpc does not have No-OS as an option tho meaning you probably pay extra for the OS. Might even be able to get them to shave ~$50 if you have your own key.
But yeah 5790 is defintely nicer on eurocom.
www.eurocom.com was working for me -
its working now, maybe they were updating it when i was trying it
-
Wow agreed, a similar configuration to my m570u with the 512mb 7950gtx, a faster proc, same ram, wifi, BT, TV, etc... is around 2700$. This is web price. Last year I manage to get my m570u for 3100$ with a lot of dealing.
Good job! And FINALLY! -
eurocom sucks for taxes tho, i bought from canada to skip the 14% tax but its in ontario....blah.....i save more going though direct pc
-
!!! Lucky me in QC, I only paid 6% GST.
-
...........but it would neevr work, 6% is fine tho if i order from directpc though
-
-
-
one thing for those ordering from directpc..I'd try to get them to pricematch with Eurocom as their current prices are rather high. If they let you then the 6% is worth it rather than chancing the full 14% tax and brokerage fees.
-
-
Personally as a canadian buyer if I'm choosing between directpc and eurocom, I'd pick eurocom (as long as price isn't remarkbly more expensive than others) just because of their rep/service and that's something I'd put premium on especially when you're dealing with laptops.
Can't say I have dealt with any of them before but Eurocom is one of the major resellers/rebranders. I'd lump them in the same group with Xotic/Powernotebooks.
If something goes wrong I'm pretty sure you can count on them. Whereas directpc is more of an unknown entity - to me anyways. -
one year of high school left, i will deff be able to apply for that by the time i go to buy a laptop though, thanks

Thats the total with tax, similar eurocom with less ram, 8700gt, and wsxga+ is about 3200, much better pricing. Also they offer a 3% discount on purchases over $2000, so technically only 3% tax and FREE shipping -
How did you come up with 3200 for eurocom?
I did similar config on eurocom (WUXGA LCD, T7300, 7950GTX, 2gb ram *their 4gb is too expensive here, 100gb 7200rpm SATA incl in price, Intel4965A/G/N Wifi, Bluetooth, WinXP Home *can opt out to save $) comes to just over CN$2600 With GST and PST incl. Less RAM but can always add more later and not pay too much.
Not sure what shipping would cost but total should still be under your 2855. -
my bad, no idea where i got 3200 from, came to 2919 with tax, still a lil more
Where to buy inCanada?
