hi, i'm new to this whole ordering online procedure and i've already set my mind on getting a NP 9262, but not sure how exactly to go about doing it. is there a website that i can order it from? i see some people saying xotic or something like that, then i found this website: www.sagernotebook.com. are there any suggestions as to which website to order from and why?

btw, thanks in advance. i'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but i'm really lost in this. thanks again. :)

I guess you can start making calculations about which one choice is cheaper. If you order from outside of your country you have to pay the VAT tax (plus duty customs).

    hi leonyeo1001 i am further south..!! :D and i purchased my NP9262 from www.xoticpc.com

justin, who i dealt with was very helpful and delivered my laptop within the specified time

what u need to be aware of is how much import tax you are gonna slapped with when u import this laptop into singapore. for AUS it was 10% GST after conversion.

If you're in Singapore then :p (so am I). We get the very sharp end of the stick here. If there was nothing u fancied at the PC show recently then your only option (and not an entirely bad one if you got money to throw away) is the XPS 1730. I don't think u can find another 8800m GTX in singapore besides dell.

Or as the above posters said, u could import. Not sure u can do so direct from the company though. Check VR forums and ask around

hi dazzyd, thanks for your reply! i see that you've a NP9262!! :D would like to know if xoticpc is reliable, because i'm sending money by wire transfer(my FIRST time), and i'm not so sure how safe it is, or how reliable, so would like more information before sending my money over.. www.sagernotebook.com only accepts wire transfer, but i was warned that after i wire-transferred my money, there's no turning back.. and i was also wondering HOW xoticpc goes about doing this wire transfer, as i've already placed my order through them (yeah i'm so excited about the laptop!), but they haven't given me any wire transfer details yet..

just to ask,did you pay by wiretransfer? if yes, how was it done? thanks aplenty.. hoping to join the sager family ASAP! *excited!*

hi leon, firstly yes i wire transferred my money to xotic as that is the only payment method they take if you are buying from overseas.

secondly let Justin know to test the laptop thoroughly for hardware issues and intercompabitily between the various hardware for any glitches or random stuff ups. this includes dead pixels too. (touch wood so far mine has not got any problems at all)

thirdly- as this will be coming by air freight make sure you go to UPS website to check where the package is from time to time as it makes its way from the US to Singapore. also note that please keep a few hundred dollars on you when the UPS guy comes to deliver the package as he/she will ask for COD (cash on delivery) this is where my laptop got delayed for a week coz i did not have the money on me and had to wait an extra week before they could deliver it.

Typically, you're going to pay the bank's transfer fees; that's why resellers like xoticpc and powernotebooks offer a 3% discount for cash and cash-equivalent payments - a wire transfer is a cash-equivalent. It's just the converse of making payment by credit card, in which case the merchant (i.e., xotic or pnb) has to pay the bank's clearing charge which, not conincidentally, is also 3%. Basically, since you and your reseller need the services of a bank to complete your transaction (unless you're going to hoof it over to Justin's shop in Nebraska - a fine state, for sure, but a bit of a hike if you ask me :D ), the bank is going to get its vigorish - it's cut - one way or the other and, ultimately, that fee is going to come out of your pocket, either because you pay by credit card and don't get the 3% discount from the reseller, or because you pay by cash or cash-equivalent, get the 3% reseller discount, but pay the 3% bank transfer fee.

thanks for your quick reply. still waiting for Justin to reply so i can get confirmation on the details. but thanks once again for your quick reply.. so that's what the 3% discount is for.. hehe..

how ever, i think its due to time zone difference that Justin is somehow not replying to my emails.. but i'll wait.. oh darn i CAN'T WAIT!! SO EXCITING!!

hey Justin.. if you see this, pleaseeee reply me asap!! =)

Waiting seems to be the most painful around here - if you think it's bad now, just wait until you've ordered it and are waiting for it to be delivered. :D

In terms of when Justin@xoticpc will respond to your email, aside from the time difference (I think it's probably about 5.36 am in Nebraska right now, where "now" means 7.36 am in NYC), the other thing to keep in mind is that tomorrow is July 4th, a big national holiday, so the good folks at xoticpc may be taking a well-earned break tomorrow (i.e., Friday) and through the week-end.

So, hopefully Justin replies to you today, but don't be too surprised/disappointed if he doesn't get back to you until Monday.

It would be easier if you would forgo the wire transfer and just pay with a debit card. No fees.

But I'm sure everything will be worth the wait. I can't wait to get mine, should be shipped by the end of next week! Conratz on yours as well! :D

hi sorry to bother you guys again.. but i've got another few questions up my sleeve.. as the np9262 would be coming with E8400 processor, could i DIY change it to a E8600 at a later date? would it be easy to do so? and so for rams and gpu etc, would it be easy to change to after-market products?

and as for running on vista 64-bit right, it'll be able to detect all 4GB of ram, right..?? is there any way i can up the speed of my ram (after market) to lets say 1066mhz?

and as for the gpu, i'm ordering in with only ONE gpu.. if i want it to run on SLI mode, can i just buy a second GPU and connect it in simply? or issit difficult to do so? and does vista home premium 64-bit support 2 8800M GTX running in SLI mode?

    thanks..

To my knowledge, there's been no official word from Clevo/Sager as to whether or not the 9262 would support the E8600 - that doesn't mean that it won't, it just means that the only way to tell is to (a) try it yourself, or (b) talk to someone else who has.

_Vista x64 will see all 4GB of RAM. My understanding is that there are various ways of OCing RAM if that's what you wish to do.

Adding a second GPU in order to get SLi is not difficult to do, from what I've seen of the postings (e.g., Justin@xoticpc posted a how-to with pictures several months back - pm him if you don't want to go through several months' worth of posts), but it's not a walk in the park either. In other words, it shouldn't be the first internal upgrade you've ever tried on a notebook, but you also don't need an A+ certification of any sort to do it, either, mostly, patience, a steady hand, good eye-sight, and the ability to carefully read and follow instructions.

_Vista won't have any problem with being able to interact with a set of SLi-ed GPUs, but, technically speaking, that's not because it supports 2 GPUs - the whole point of SLi is to "trick" the computer into treating the two GPUs as one GPU, so as far as the OS is concerned, so long as it supports one discrete GPU, it should be able to deal with 2 GPUs in SLi, and should see them as one GPU.

hi dazzyd.. need to ask you something.. you said you ordered yours from Justin right, and you told me:

'secondly let Justin know to test the laptop thoroughly for hardware issues and intercompabitily between the various hardware for any glitches or random stuff ups. this includes dead pixels too. (touch wood so far mine has not got any problems at all) '

but i've already made my order through the website before hand and din't put Justin's name under the comments box, but i'd really like him to handle my rig and test it out before shipping it over here (as you know, it takes alot of time and money to ship the rig both ways), so do i cancel my current order and make a new one under Justin's name?

another thing also i've seen on xoticpc's website is some student specials.. i think students can get further discount right, but i din't put that in the comments box either.. so what should i do now? xoticpc's closed on weekends.. haha..

so should i make another order or... ...?? thanks..

Well, as xoticpc are just a reseller, then justin (or anyone at xotic) won't actually see your laptop anyway, they are simply shipped straight from sager, so asking him to test it won't make any difference. I believe the only thing xoticpc does for students is half shipping discount, though that might just be for US shipping, worth asking tho - pm justin@xoticpc and see what he can do for you

hi leon. when i bought my laptop from xotic i specifically put my comments in for my laptop to be tested thoroughly before shipping. but im not sure if justin personally did the testing on my laptop. theres no harm in leaving him a message.

you can also send him a personal message on this forum or you could email him directly just as i did before getting my laptop.

That's going to depend on how quickly the bank in question is going to give the reseller unrestricted credit for the amount of the charge or transfer. Generally, credit cards will probably be faster because authorization of the charge is typically done electronically; however, it may take more time for the actual transaction to be cleared and the reseller's account credited with the charged funds. A wire transfer will, I believe, frequently take three business days to clear, unless you pay a higher fee to have the transfer expedited.

Again, because practices differ from merchant to merchant (often depending on the merchant's size), the only way you'll know for sure is if you contact xoticpc and ask them.

no point asking about credit card payment to xotic. they do not take credit payments from overseas customers. been there tried it. your best bet is wire transfer.

Domestic wires clear in about 2 hours.

International wires can indeed take anywhere from 1-3 days.

However virtually none of us accept international credit cards.

leon, it is not that dead pixels are not checked it is that unless the 0 Dead Pixel Policy is purchased there are no guarantees of a 0 Dead Pixel Screen. :( 2-3 weeks would be a accurate lead time from payment receipt until delivery to your International location.

wow 2-3 weeks is kinda long.. considering that i'm rushing for time here.. anyways, thanks alot.. should get the telegraphic transfer done by tmr so that the shipment can come in asap..

so just to confirm, even if there's dead pixels on the screen, the laptop would still come to me? i mean, its kinda hard to fork out an extra US $200 just to gurantee that there's no dead pixels.. that amouts to quite alot after currency conversion, and being a student, i'm really on a very tight budget here.. is there any way i can have a screen that doesn't have dead pixels? or can i fix the dead pixel issue somehow? thanks..

oh and btw, wire transfer, aka telegraphic transfer, takes 1-3 days to clear? shouldn't it be instant? so will xoticpc start working on my order only after they've received my payment(1-3 days) or can they start working on it immediately after i've made the payment in Singapore instead of waiting another 1-3 days to decrease the delay?

    thanks.

That is correct about Dead Pixels
If you want the Guarantee of No Dead Pixels, purchase the DP Policy. :) (that is the only way to do it). We require receipt of your good wire transfer prior to moving a laptop into production.

2-3 weeks is not that long from production to delivery to your International location, considering it takes 3-7 business days (1-1.5 weeks) to build and test.
